If my router gets warm while I am online it will shut-down. I have to unplug all the cords, wait about 20 minutes and then plug it back up to use the internet. I think I need a new router.

You could try updating the firmware, it maybe a software probably.

You should be able to find it on the manufacture's website.

Depending on the location of where your router is placed(confined closed off spaces build and retains heat)you could possibly just move it to a better location with more freeflowing air.But if it does get exceedingly hot(uncomfortable to touch) then yes some components are on the point of failure in the near future and i will start looking for a replacement. Blowing cool air over the router with a fan will also assist in the short term.

Go for a Linksys router. They continue to work if warm.

Won't connect online

This just happened to my siste and a frind of mine recently. It can be a few things.

Are you connecting via wire from your laptop or wireless? I'm hoping they did not remove a wireless router and not explain this to you.

With a new modem your main IP address would change. First I would try turning off everything, unplug the modem and any connected switches or routers. Wait at least 10 minutes, better yet, unplug them and go to work, go shopping etc.. Then plug the modem back in, wait 2-5 minutes, plug in any routers and switches, wait 1 minute then turn the laptop back on. See if that solves the problem.

My internet was shut off an we got it back on but cant find the disc for the router how can i get it back on

you don't have to reprogram the router after an internet outage.
You just need to unplug it, wait 15 sec, and plug it back in.
I would suggest this procedure though to make sure everything syncs up
turn everything off...computers, modem, router etc.
oiwer the modem up first. wait 1 minute, or until the lights settle down.
power up the router.
again wait a minute or until the lights settle.
power up the computer
You should now have internet again.

Hi, my router won't le tme connect to the internet. I have unplugged it, waited a few minutes and then plugged it back in. Re-booted it, and still no connections. Any suggestions?

Hi,

you probably need to unplug power on your router too.

Unplug both power plugs and wait 20 seconds. Then plug back power to your MODEM FIRST.

Wait 1 minute to make sure the connection get an ip address.

After that, put the power back to your router.

Wait 20 seconds and try the connection with your computer.

If it doesn't work, restart your computer.

Hope this helps!

Cant connect!

- Try to power cycle the Motorola modem and the router for 5 minutes.
- After 5, turn On first the modem, make sure all the lights of the modem are stable before plug in the router.
- If this procedure doesn't work then I suggest that you might need to update the firmware of your router.
