Now, when I attempt to turn on the AC I get no response from the unit. Nothing is blowing out of vents, even when fan mode is set to on. So far I ...
Check outside unit if unit and compressor are running feel the large line to see if it is cold. If compressor is running and line is not cold possible charge problems. You may have a capacitor problem outside. they go out quite often. You can change this yourself, Open up outside unit and the cap is the silver bullet with terminals out the top. Bad cap can cause compressor to not operate and also the fan. You need to clean the coil inside or at leat check the coil to see if it is clean. You can clean theis with a toilet brush do not go against the coil bit brush with the fins. You may need to call a service tech but try these options first. russ
More than likely, your AC unit is on it's own breaker inside or outside the house. If it is, it is very possible that the breaker is either flipped or blown. This is a problem I would HIGHLY recommend that you contact a professional for due to the nature. If you flip the breaker back on, you could cause a surge to the unit, thus "frying" it, or it could cause a fire inside/outside the home.
This only could 1--2 things, a bad circuit board fan relay or bad thermostat. To check for bad thermostat, take off the front cover to reveal the 4-wire terminial and jump the red-wire (power)-cool,(yellow -y or blue)--- green--fan white-(heat)..........red to yellow-or y=cool. Thank-you-very-much!
If you have one of those new digital thermostats try changing the battery. If your air conditioning is run through a central heating system the power must be on to the furnace. 24 volt control circuit gets its power from the furnace in this kind of case.
