I have an Emachine ET1331g. How do I open the casing to reveal its inner contents?

The eMachines ET1331G desktop computer uses the eMachines NexGen 3 computer case.

Looking at the computer from the Front, the Left Side Panel removes.

Looking at the back you will be viewing the Right side.
There are two screws to remove, then the side panel is slid Back. (Towards the rear of the computer)

There is a raised protrusion in the middle of the Side Cover on the back. This is where your fingers go to pull back on the Side Panel.

There is one screw coming down from the top, on the edge of the Side Panel, and one screw coming up from the bottom.
(Philips head screws)
Remove them.

Slide the Side Panel back. It will only slide back so far, as there are tabs coming from the Side panel, into slots of the computer case.
Once it stops sliding back, take it straight out to the side. Lay the Side Panel aside.

Here is a photo detailing the back of the ET1331G from eMachines Support,

http://support.gateway.com/emachines/desktop/2009/emachines/et/ET1831/ET1831rv.shtml

The two screws on the Right side, as you are viewing the computer from the Rear, as shown here.

NOTE*

1) Computer UNPLUGGED from power

2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions BEFORE reaching inside the computer, and BEFORE handling hardware parts.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.

Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components in a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open.
TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static.

Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to touch the metal frame again upon your return.

I have an emachines T1440 desktop. the front face of the machine is broken, the power cord, and the wires from the power cord to the power supply box. What type of case or tower can i use the remaining...

Luckily, eMachine uses a generic system board. You can purchase a case from any computer store. The only thing to watch for is the plate in the rear of the motherboard, make sure it matches your ports. Again I believe you can use the one from your eMachine.

To remove motherboard from laptop e-system ei3102

To remove the motherboard you need to remove power from the back, lay the computer on it's side, wear an anti-ESD wrist strap, remove the left side cover (looking from back of computer). Mark and record all connections (a video helps while you disassemble). Pull all connectors off by grabbing connector NOT wires. Some have locks. Remove all adapter cards (little circuit boards plugged in motherboard). Remove RAM by pushing on locks on each end. Remove the CPU fan and heat sink but PULL UPP CAREFULLY in case CPU stays attached. If cpu is still in socket, carefully lift locking lever and lift cpu straight up. Remove all screws. Board will need to slide forward slightly to get out of case. Take old board to store to make of proper replacement and take cpu also. Both should be in anti-static bags but DO NOT use ziplock bags. Install in reverse BUT cpu should fall into socket WITHOUT pushing, it has one corner of pins different from others. Make sure that you have wrist ******** at all times working inside the tower. Respond for further details if needed.
Good luck!

I'm unable to get the start menu to come up on my Emachine?

if you do not see the welcome window of the bios, check if you have power, if power LED lights? if so, disconnect the power cord, and open the case, carefully disassemble the memory card ram, and blow the socket, 90% of cases like yours is dirty or bad connection in the RAM, you can also reset the bios, the easiest way is by disconnecting the battery 3v, for a few seconds, must return to the factory settings, it helps if you have any problem with video, I hope it may have helped
