How do we get wireless hookup to PC in rural area no cable or DSL

We live in a rural area and don't have Cable or DSL, just slow dial-up. Is it possible to hook up to the internet with a wireless hookup on our PC? We don't have a laptop or any satellite either. We aren't very computer savvy so aren't familiar with the terminology so be kind with any help you can give us!! Thank you so much.

Depending on your location it may be hard or impossible. You need to know if you can get wireless signals first. If cell phones don't work in your area you probably wont be able to go wireless. You can check with your local electronics store for advice. If they think it'll work you'll need a wireless router if your internet driver in your computer doesn't have one. To check go to your internet options then to connections and check available connections and types. Do this first so you can try to get it to work without spending any money or a lot of time. Just remember wireless is not as secure as other connections, so watch what you do with reguards to your personal information when wireless.

If you have cell phone signal in your area you can use 3g internet which is very fast compared to dial up.

You will have to use a wireless cell phone type of modem. Some hi end cell phones like, blackberry's and some blackjack's have this capibility, to be used as a computer internet modem, see your local cell phone co. This service will be a bit expensive.

Is there a way to get my Toshiba Satellite pro 440CDX to conncect to a ethernet cord and not dial up

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION (non dial-up connection)

First you need to decide what type of broadband and Internet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless 3G network uses the mobile/cell phone network and can be separate or combine with your cell phone account. This type of Internet connection uses an USB wireless device shaped like an USB memory stick.
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include a modem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service then your laptop with a wireless card can then connect to the Internet. You can also connect to a free WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc. using the wireless card in your laptop.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and the cost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installation CD.

Describing Cheap Dial Up Internet Connections

Today you can find a 56k modem. Transmit data at a speed of fifty-six Kbit / s V.90 or V.92 protocol. You must understand that this is the fastest available dial-up modem. 56k is the limit of maximum bandwidth of a standard telephone line. Be sure to connect to the Internet in areas with less noise power to prevent low-speed Internet connection. At this pace, you can play online games, download large files, make video conferences or movies from a video streaming site. Many of these applications are not compatible with Internet Dial-face. A broadband cable high-speed, satellite or DSL Internet service are better preferences.

You should expect all to take a little time to coordinate a phone connection, negotiate the protocol and, finally, allow the transmission of data. In some places, this process is slower. Note that the entire system consists of three entities - the ISP, Telephone Company, and the user. All have the power to terminate the Internet connection for some reason.

Yes of course. Before the introduction of the latest 3G wireless high-speed cable and DSL broadband by satellite, it was a bestseller. Today, it's always a good option for remote areas that lack the technology or broadband fiber-to-date. Satellite networks are suitable for rural people who want to get broadband connections faster and reliable. In urban and rural areas, attracts fewer users dial-up packages which do not require very fast network and you want the lowest cost monthly cost for ISPs.

This technology is very similar to digital subscriber line (DSL), because they use a phone line. However, DSL is more preferable because it is much faster and can use the website and answer a call on the same telephone line. Unfortunately, dial-up does not work the same way, the caller will often find your line is busy. In terms of broadband connections, ADSL first. Offers the latest technologies that offer greater speed and accuracy, such as ADSL, SDSL, VDSL and HDSL.

Where is the wireless switch on the dell vostro 200

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

What is difference between lan card and modem

Hi there,

The difference between a Lsn Card and a modem are this - A Lan card is a card that you slide into the side of a laptop and it can allow you the ability to get onto a network wirelessly. A Lan card for a PC allows a Lan connection by way of a CAT 5 cable that will allow you to get onto the internet or if a crossover cable is attached to your pc to another you are directly connected to the network. A modem is a piece of hardware that is installed into a slot in the PC that will allow you the ability to get onto the internet by attaching a phone line to it through the RJ 11 jack (which it comes with 2 rj11 jacks on it).

Will linskys work in rural areas

Which linksys device? what are you trying to do? Connect it to a DSL use it as a DSL or connect it to some other internet source.
Please be more specific.
But I can say now that if you are able to order Internet service in your area the most any router/modem such as a links will work.
My father lives in a very rual area of south eastern Iowa, he was able to order DSL service through a small company there who provided their own modem, we then connected that modem to a Linksys WAP54G so he can have wireless. Now he is able to surf wirelessly while sitting in the corn field near his house.

Internet promplems

for dial up simply a modem .... on laptops if you do not have a builtin modem you can purchase a pc-card modem that goes into your pcmcia slot ... for highspeed either a ethernet (same option as modem) but almost all modern laptops have a built in ethernet ... or usb ... also I highly recommend a router if you are going highspeed ... even if you only have one computer ... a router will protect your system because it provides a NAT firewall. If you go with a router make sure to set up the internet connection on the router do not tunnel through the router with a PPPoE connection

Best wireless router

She could use it to connect to a Local Area Network, but without plugging it into a Wide Area Network cable (ex. DSL, Cable, Fiber, etc.) she will not be able to connect to the internet..

In other words, NO, she cannot just fire that up and get internet access without a ISP Provider.

She still has to have some way out to the internet, and that is still her dial up connection..
