Minolta Dimage S414 camera doesn't like a new 4GB CF card

I have just bought a brand new Kingston 4GB Compact Flash Card (to replace a 128MB one) for my Minolta Dimage S414 camera, but it doesn't work. I can't format it and I get an error message 'unable to use the card'. Any suggestions, please? Is it something to do with the size of the card or the camera? The 128MB card still works. I recently had a problem with a PNY 128MB card, which is why I bought the new one.

Check your manual to see if your camera accepts a card that large.

WHAT 2GB BRAND SHOULD I USE FOR MY MINOLTA DIMAGE S414 CAMERA

Any brand will do, but use only old type 2GB SD cards, no SDHC types.
I would recommend Transcend, Kingston or Sandisk, etc.

What is the largest size compact flash card can a dc290 use

I am using a 2GB TopRam Compact Flash memory card right now, and I haven't had a problem. With the DC290 in UltraMode, it's estimating that approximately 1900+ photos will fill the card.

I am not sure how to format my new 4gb memory card please help

It's impossible. The KM Dimage S414 takes compact flash cards, but it was never designed to handle that high a capacity. The user manual does not state an upper limit, but from my own memory of your model the maximum capacity it could reliably handle was 512MB and with some brands of memory (Kingston for definite) it worked with 1GB.

There is no way around this: the limit is purely down to hardware limitations which existed when your camera was designed seven years ago. Your only fix is to obtain a compact flash card of preferably no greater than 512MB capacity, don't pay extra for cards which claim to offer speed advantages as your camera cannot take advantage of those benefits. You may be able to get one free if you look on your local FreeCycle/Freegle groups as many people will have these lying around unused after upgrading and they have no resale value.

I hope that my answer has been of assistance even though it's not quite the answer you hoped for. Please take a moment to rate the free answer which I have provided you with.

Minolta dimage s414 camera, error no card try to use a 4 gb flashcard and then it read unable to use card.

The S414 was designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it will fit into the slot, it will not work. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I am using the Minolta Diamge S414 and when I put the memory card in it says unable to read card. The card is a Sandisk 4GB Extreme. Is this card not compatiable with the camera. Thanks

Try to format the card first. Sometimes, if there is data on the card, the camera will not be able to read it. You should always format memory cards on the camera that they will be used on.

Mille merci, dwafellman. Vouz m’avez sauvé un voyage á Office Depot pour retourner mon mémoire Flash.

Replacement flash card connector

I had the same thing happen... broken pins. I purchased a card reader at Wal-Mart.
Take your pics, pop the card out of the camera, pop it into the card reader and plug into your pc to upload.
