Better check first your air vents/holes for build up clogs. Might be a thermal problem. Blow that using compressed air can. Second check your memory card, might be dirty contact with the connector. Cleaning using a soft eraser only its edge connector. But disconnect first the battery and Power Adaptor supply line and power it down completely before doing so.

Could be its problem is dirt build up. If this first steps fails, consider your plan checking its internal. For overheat and other check up.

For inputs, hope it helps.

My laptop won't start... please

Not sure but it sounds like the hard drive is causing the problem. Lap tops are set up so that any problems with them they shut down, and a bad hard drive will shut you down the way you are describing. The only test i know for this is to remove the hard drive and see if you can get the computer to at least boot. If you can with no hard drive then it usually means the drive has failed. Not sure if this will help, but hope it helps.

I have a compaq laptop presario X13 04657 and it is overheating. The fan makes a really loud noise before it shuts down. The computer gets really hot. Any suggestions?

1) is the fan still working?
2) Turn the computer off, remove the bottom cover and clean up the inside by blowing compressed air into it. Be sure to remove all the dust and lint you see. Check the fan moves easily.
3) replace the bootom cover and try again
4) DO NOT use your laptop on top of a soft surface. That means no pillows and no blankets or any other type of fabric under your laptop. Do not use it on top of your bed either. Only on top of HARD surfaces.
5) Avoid playing any intense 3D GAMES. Most laptops are NOT designed for game playing

I have the same problem with this computer if you are like me the battery life is also VERY short so it goes dead quite often.

I fixed a laptop a few months back with this problem "or atlest the exact same symptoms" what I did to fix it was take out the ram and the bio battery which rest the the bios and I was able to start it normally.

I however am currently unable to easily find the bios battery on this motherboard. I have been looking for a diagram to no success. I know about computers but dont want to just start taking it appart. If you find the battery or a diagram please let me know.

Can not start lap top

  1. If your desktop computer does nothing at all when you try to start it, first check that the power cable is securely plugged in at the back of the computer as well as into a working power outlet. It's amazing how often this is the case.
  2. Step 2 If you're starting from a button on the keyboard, make sure the keyboard is connected to the computer.
  3. Step 3 If the computer is plugged into a surge protector, see if the surge protector has a reset switch that you can push. (If it doesn't have a reset switch and the problem is with the surge protector, it will need to be replaced.) Try plugging a lamp or other device into one of the surge protector's outlets to make sure it's working.
  4. Step 4 If you can hear the computer's fan or hard-disk drive, or if you can see indicator lights on the main unit but the monitor stays dark, make sure that the monitor is connected to a working power source, that it's turned on and that it's securely connected to the computer via the video cable.
  5. Step 5 If the monitor and computer have power but the computer displays a "Non-system disk or disk error" message, check to make sure you didn't leave a disk in the A: drive. If you did, eject it and restart the computer.
  6. Step 6 If the operating system still won't start even though the computer and monitor have power, try restarting with a Windows CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive or, if you've got a Macintosh, with a Mac OS disc in the CD-ROM drive. (You can start a Mac from the CDROM drive by holding down the C key while starting up.)
  7. Step 7 If the operating system then starts, your problem is probably with the startup hard drive or with the operating system installed on it. If you can't fix the drive, you'll have to replace it. (See also How to Fix Bad Sectors on a Hard Disk and How to Recover Lost Files.)
