Can a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive burn dvds? i downloaded software to burn dvds but it says the e drive is busy?? realplayer dvd burning sotware.

If the drive only says "CD-ROM" or "DVD-ROM" then it probably does not burn CDs or DVDs. If it says CD-R, then it can burn recordable CDs and if it says CD-RW, it can write and rewrite to rewritable CDs. If the drive says DVD-R or DVD+R, it can burn DVD-R or DVD+R discs.
So you should get a new DVD drive for your pc and also you need a DVD burning program to do the burning job, such as Leawo DVD Creator which can retain the original quality.

No, it can't burn DVD's. CD-RW is a read/write device or "burner". DVD-ROM is a read only device. You will need to purchase a DVD+/-RW device in order to "burn" DVD's.

No you need a dvd burner. The unit you have burns cds but not dvds

CD/DVD drives will always show 0 bytes if there is no media present.
You will need extra software in order to burn DVD such as Roxio, Nero. I beleive the LG burners show come with software, you will need to install it in, and run it to burn DVDs.
Nero does offer a free version that will burn DVDs http://www.nero.com/ena/downloads-nero9-free.php

I can burn cd's but not dvd's

What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means
CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write
DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory
so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs)
If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)

You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive

Why my [sony cd rw dvd rom] will not detect a blank dvd disk
If you have the sony CD RW DVD ROM then you can't burn the data in a blank DVD.

Because your Configuration is :
Read : CD / DVD
Write : CD

This means you have a combo drive. But to burn a DVD you should have DVD RW.

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.
