When the last time you changed the water filter ? If the ice cubes were in the freezer too long, the food odors from the frozen food could contaminate the water and the ice causing them bad taste (freezer burn).
Replace the water filter, if it wasn't replaced as scheduled. Dispose the old ice and make the new one to see the fresh ice still tastes bad with the new water filter. I think this should solve the problems.

The ice maker doesn't have a filter , the problem could be the ice maker itself that the tray ,which is made out of aluminum is losing particles.Look at the conditions of the ice maker tray ,if you see like white spots replace the ice maker.

GE fridge 1999 model. water started tasting funny. found black stuff in a peice of ice. Water in rest of house seems fine.

Hello there,
When your water starts tasting funny and you can see some kind of particles in the ice, then it means the water filter is dirty and needs to be changed. Try to get the water filter replaced and the funny taste will stop.
If you are having some kind of lime taste or mud taste, or lime deposits or mineral deposit, is simply means you will have to replace the water line and reservior.
Hope this helped. All the best Elect_Comp

Ice cubes have a medicine taste after we changed the filter on our new (6mos) whirlpool refrigerator, not in the water. Did not have the taste before changing filter

Did you run water through the new filter before you installed the line going to the refrigerator???? Some time if you don't do that you will get some residue from the carbon filter. and that will leave a funny taste. I would make a couple of more batches of ice and throw them out and then try a taste test of the new batch. That should take care of the taste.

Kenmore refrigerator model# 70192001 has funny chemical tasting ice

Do you have a water filter, either inline or inside the fridge side? There is nothing in the water lines or valves within the fridge that will contribute to chemical taste. Unless it's just been connected and the line was dirty. It's either your water supply, and if so install a quality inline water filter will help. Some times if the fridge filter is clogged the water flow to the ice maker is restricted and little bubbles get trapped in the ice and they taste off. You should have crystal clear ice. If not get a filter.

Ice tastes bad from ice maker

Sometimes filters have issues like this even being new , it is located at the bottom kickplate [round] , pick up a new filter -part number 4396841 - install the filter , dump remaining ice in bin out , purge the water through the new filter through water in door for a few minutes and you should be good.

Ice maker filter

No, they do not. If the ice is old it can absorb taste from the air. You can also buy an in-line filter for your unit. Hope this helps!

Ice maker's ice taste funny

You may consider pulling out the ice maker and tossing it in the trash if you look at it and see that where the ice sits it's corroded or its close to a 10 year old in age (IT'S DUE TO GO OUT ANYWAY).Other than that:you have a 3% chance that the tube that goes to your ice maker is bad.
