On the MP210 how do you tell if the absorber is really full? I am worried that if I do the reset for the counter and if it is really full can it cause damage to the printer or is there some sort of grace period like maybe you can reset it once or twice but eventually you really do need to get it serviced and replaced (or cleaned?) ?
These are the solutions from Canon:
1. Load paper correctly then press black or color button (MP210)
2. Press on/off switch to reset the multifunction device
3. Remove Packing Material MP210 (new printers)
4. Reset ink cartridge MP210
5. The MP210 may require repair
The ink absorber is generally a pad in the bottom of the printer and after a number of passes printing, the counter indicates it is "full", however it can likely be reset and used for a period of time even when "full". The worst that will possibly happen is ink may leak out of the bottom of the printer when it will no longer absorb ink. If you are a bit technical and able to remove the pad, the pad can be washed in warm soapy water, even add a bit of bleach to get it white again works, and reused after the counter (printer) is reset.I am not familiar with that particular model, but I have washed and reused the ink pads on other models of Canon with no problem as well as Epson and HP.
There are two possible ways to remove the error from your printer. First is to actually clean the absorber pads that are full of waste ink. The second is to reset the printer to clear the error and let the printer print again.
Clean the two absorber pads. There are actually two absorber pads located on the right side of the printer, under the ink cartridges when the carrier is in the home position.
Accessing the pads and remove them for cleaning?
Turn on the printer. Lift the top cover to expose the ink cartridges. As soon as you lift up the cover the cartridge carrier will move away from its home base. Then the pads will be exposed. It will be a dirty job so be prepared with your tweezers and extra cloth for some ink spillage. Using the tweezers, lift up the pads sitting on the rubber retainer. The pads can be easily clean by placing them under running water. Use warm water to remove the ink from the pads. Dry the pads and reinstall them. Same procedure if you are installing new pads.
However, the problem will not be solve especially if you are currently facing the waste ink absorber full error or E-27.

It gives an E,2,7 error code when I turn on the printer. I am wondering if I can just do the reset procedure and continue on or if I really need to pursue the cost of getting it serviced.
When it's full it will give a printer error message for service.
