I bougth a VGA cable (15 pins) to connect my Acer to my TV. My TV (Sanyo HDTV plasma) has a D-Sub input connection that fits perfectly to VGA cable. unfortunately, the dsplay won't work.

Your computer must be setup for multiple display. Double click on your graphics card and look for display setting. You should get something like dualview, clone, single etc and activate the 2nd display. The cable connection must be made before your computer is swiched on. Most PC graphic card wont recognized new plugins after it is switched on.
A u sure u have extended windows desktop or put it in to clone mode. maybe u haven't selected proper source on TV. just try with something besides TV maybe cable is too long or not working.
