    I downloaded xp-sp-3 because I was prompted by Microsoft. Now I have no sound. I called the Microsoft service number and was informed that they could correct the problem for $119. It was working fine until I was prompted to do this. What gives?.

Hi,
First you need to  check if the audio driver is installed properly.
For that right click on My Computer and click on manage driver. In this if you see an exclamation mark next to your audio driver then its coz your driver is not installed properly.
For this if you know which audio driver is installed you can go to that site and download it and then u can try installing the driver. Once installed restarting the computer will solve the issue.

Check device manager, if there is a question mark or explination mark next to anything like "multimedia audio controller, ac'97 audio controller" or similar, you need to re-install drivers, if it is installed correctly, check sound and audio properties under control panel, make sure audio devices being used are consistant with your soundcard (sometimes they try to revert back to default)

I have an asus ah3450 and when i enter some games my pc restarts
There have been many issues with the Windows XP Service Pack 3. The 'bugs' are supposed to be close to being worked out.

For ->MYSELF, I wouldn't use SP/3. However, SP/3 is 'slid' into your registry, if you have automatic updates turned on.

The only known solution to this problem is to either uninstall service pack 3 and 2, install the modem and install again SP 2 and 3, or format the computer, install Windows XP service pack 1, install the modem, then install SP 2 and SP3. A pain, I know. It's probably easier to just change modem. I welcome any developer who is willing to build an unofficial installer for this modem to work with SP 3 and Vista. Why throw away a useable modem only because the company that made it wants you to do so?

Have Windows XP, Home Edition. Cannot install Service Patch 3,
Beethoven 9 is not part of the service pack. Go to microsoft and download the service pack as is. If you don't have a fully registeredwindows program, you will have problems until you register it. I've downloaded all service packs and updates for the past 7 years on different levels of windows without any problems. You must have them registered to prove you have an authentic purchased program, not something copied from someone elses setup disks.

Can you find and enter the manufacturer and model of the desktop PC in question? (probably on the computer case) Also can you identify the version of Windows that you are running (3.1, 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, etc). Listing anything you already know about the sound card would also help.
