I own a Troy-Bilt Automatic lawn tractor - Super Bronco riding mower, containing a Kohler Courage SV470-610 engine with vertical crankshaft.
When the tractor is used the engine is much louder than normal, and after a short time of use starts to smoke from the front of the engine. Oil also appears to have collected under the front part of the engine, and we suspect an oil leak. How can this possible oil leak (or something related to that) be fixed?
Take it to a reputable shop and have them check it over - courage engines had a problem when they first came out - the bolts in the cover plate were not torqued properly and when they come loose, the torque of the engine turning will crack the block - this should be a warranty condition if the block is cracked - just make sure the shop is a kohler warranty station

The Troybilt mower is junk. I too had one with this problem and took it to an "Authorized" Troybilt shop. They didn't do anything to it. After a month, it was still doing it. I used a different mower. Eventually, took it to another shop and they stated basically what is written in the answer section. Poor quality workmanship, and poor design. Cost me $300 out of my pocket to get a new gasket installed and bolts torqued properly.
I took it to two authorized Kohler repair shops. Neither corrected the problem and a year later, doing it again. I already spent over $500 on this mower. No more.
