IF it only does this when watching a DVD first hook the player to another set to see if same issue---if same you may have either a dirty or failing optical pickup unit in the player---dirty and it can be cleaned---bad and usually it is cheaper to replace the player.
Yes,the portable DVD player u have now the main LCD viewing screen it is dead.Noth worth fixing by replacing the main LCD viewing screen parts and the labors of a tech. to do it.Will cost about the same as a brand new one.
Make sure the tape you are trying to view has something recorded on it. Also insure that the tape you are trying to view is not recorded at a speed your DVD Recorder/VCR combo can not handle. If it is a pre recorded tape and it will play on another unit, then your VCR heads are dirty. Try using a VCR head cleaner. If that doesn't work the heads may need to be cleaned by hand or possibly may be bad, a trip to the repair shop would be call for then.
Make sure component cables match colors between Television and DVD player. It should be TV input to DVD output. Try to play at least two DVDs to make sure its not a single DVD that may be having an issue. Also, adjust your television's picture setting to make sure its set to normal. Also access your DVD players menu to make sure the setting are set to normal as well.If it doesn't correct the problem, use a different component input on your television. If problem persists, you may need to contact the DVD player manufacturer to see if its still under warranty and not defective. Good Luck.
on the remote there is a button called "View Mode" on the bottom right that changes the size of the screen. Try that. I don't know you would adjust it without the remote
On most of the set top DVD players you use the monitor button or the remote control menu button to access the mode that flips the display (invert). The mode is for those who mount the units to the ceiling of a vehicle for rear passengers to view. You might have to have a DVD playing at the time or just loaded in the stop mode to access the feature.
The picture rolling is simply because the PAL decoder can't lock up to the 60Hz vertical sync pulses, even if your DVD player is set to NTSC-PAL conversion and there is no vertical hold adjustment (either external or internal) on this model set to achieve this.
There is a possible alternative only if your DVD player has RGB output (not component). The JVC for example has direct RGB drive capability via the SCART input on the back panel. If you get a suitable lead you could try getting a picture this way as it bypasses the decoding and sync sep circuits in the PAL decoder chip.
