Batteries have likely worn out. They need to be replaced periodically. Open the back, get the number off the battery, order two new batteries, and you'll be back in business.

SOURCE: Panasonic KX-TGA101S base not charging.

Here are a couple things you can try.

Clean the charging contacts, this can be done two ways. The manufacture's recommend using a pencil eraser. I recomend using a q-tip and some rubbing alchol. Just rub the alchol soaked q-tip on all the metal contacts on the bases and the bottom of the handset.

Gooo luck.
Hope this helps

How to register a new handset?

Unfortunately, the EXI5560 is not an expandable cordless telephone system. The base can only use the handset to which it was originally linked at the factory.

Similarly, the DXA15588 handsets need to be paired to that base, not just to any Uniden cordless phone base. The first handset gets registered while it is charging in the main base. Charge the second handset fully in the charging base. Make sure not to use the phone for any incoming calls during the registration process. Take the first handset off the main base. You do not have to put this handset on the other charger and put second handset on the main base. Wait for the Charge/In Use LED to begin to flash. Wait at least another 5 seconds before removing the second handset from the main base. That's when you should be able to use the find HS button on the DXA15588-2 main base to get both handsets to beep.

I hope this helps. You can find the manuals for these phones at the following sites: https://www.uniden.info/download/ompdf/EXI5560om.pdf and https://www.uniden.info/download/ompdf/DXAI5588-2om.pdf .

Do two handsets plug up to telephone line? If so how?

The main unit with answer machine has an inlet line where the phone line from the wall plugs into, which is located in the back of unit along with where the power cord gets attached. The second handset should have a stand/charger unit that should just plug into an outlet only to charge it. The two handsets run off the main answering machine/ unit. So as long as that is plugged in you should be able to use both handsets, because they both operate on the same frequency wave. Hope this helps you.

I just bought Model D-1660-2. I cannot make the second handset work. I have charged the battery for more than 20 hours. I set all the Handset setup modes as instructed in the manual. Works for the main...

Welcome to FixYa.

Reset the units/set up by doing the following:
  • Turn OFF all the HANDSETS.
  • Remove the batteries of the HANDSETS.
  • Unplug the power source of the BASE.
  • Unplug the phone line of the BASE.
  • Let it stay that way for 30 mins.
  • Insert the battery again of the HANDSETS, make sure it is charged properly.
  • Plug back the power source of the BASE.
  • Plug back the phone line to the BASE.
  • Register any handset that is unregistered (refer to manual).

New out of the box wont power on

Hi.. Let me try to help you if I can... I'd like you to check a few things,

1) Open battery cover on handset & make sure that the battery pack is installed correctly, and not upside down. Also make sure the little wires that come from battery pack are plugged into the tiny jacks of the phone (usualy red & black wires) in handset is fully attached & pushed snuggly into the handset... and if No wires, check to ensure the part that does connect the battery to handset is not covered with a plastic film of tape or paper as right from a manufacturer they sometimes do that to preserve length of battery until product is sold to you..

2) Check the bottom of the handset phone, that sit in the cradle of the electric part of the recharger, and make sure there is nothing like plastic or paper covering the connections between the bottom of the handset and the charger. Make sure there is a full on connection for a full charge to the handset. As with some cordelss phones Ive had the red LED light will not come on if there is something blocking a full connection for a charge.. The red LED light on base, only comes on when the electricity is flowing into the handset. The slightest tilt not allowing handset a full charge, wont give it a FULL charge.

3) You say " NEW. Out Of The Box" I hope when you connected the battery pack into the handset, and made sure it was connected right, you then allowed handset to charge at least a FULL 12 -24 hours before trying to use your new cordless phone. as the batteries right out of the box, are rarely already fully charged when any cordless phone is bought and then it does need 12 - 24 hours for a FIRST FULL CHARGE...

If you can check all 3 of these questions, and let me know how things are back on this posting, if you stilll can not solve the problem after a full charge to battery, I may have some other ideas that can help.

Good Luck

Second phone not working.

From the manual:

VERY IMPORTANT: BOTH HANDSETS MUST BE REGISTERED TO THE
MAIN BASE BEFORE USE. After the 2nd handset has charged for 16
hours, place it on the main base station for 20 seconds, it will then
automatically register and verify its security code.

ATT 5840 Base reset code/procedure

document.write(parent.prscreen) Try this to get it working. Relocate the handset(s) closer to the main base.

Check for any lights on the base including charge, intercom, and channel lights (if applicable to the model).

Re-cradle the handset on the base for 15 seconds. Lift the handset and press PHONE.

Unplug the AC adapter from the main base unit and take out the battery from the handset. Leave it unplugged for 15 seconds. Plug the handset battery in and re-cradle the handset. Plug back the AC adapter in and wait for 15 seconds.

Try to de-register the handsets by following the steps below:

1. Using the soft keys on the base located below the base screen, press MENU
2. Press the down arrow once until BASE SETTINGS is highlighted.
3. Press the OK soft key.
4. On the base, press MUTE 3 times and FLASH twice. This will
deregister the unit.

Below are steps on how to re-register the handsets:

1. Make sure to charge the handset battery pack at least 12 hours.
2. Using the soft keys on the base located below the base screen, press MENU.
3. Use the up or down arrow keys to select DISPLAY BASE ID.
4. Press OK. The base screen will display the 15-digit Base ID
code for about 30 seconds, then the unit returns to the idle
screen. Write down the Base ID code on a piece of paper.
5. At the cordless handset, use the soft key to select NEW.
6. Enter the 15-digit Base ID code using the number keypad.
7. Use the soft key to select OK. The screen displays PLEASE
WAIT!.
8. After about 45 seconds, the screen displays FOUND BASE. If the handset displays BASE BUSY TRY LATER, the base is in
use.

Other products that use the 5.8GHz band can interfere with the use of this phone. These products or equipments include: radio towers, page towers, cellular Phones, other 5.8GHz cordless phones, intercoms, or monitors. If any of these are in the area, they may interfere with the performance of the phone. Try relocating the phone.

Video displays, Televisions or Personal Computers can cause
interference on the phone if it is plugged in electrically with one of this equipment (typically on a power strip or extension cord). Please relocate the phone to an AC outlet without any other major appliance plugged in.
You can also relocate the base to another room.

Relocate the phone out of the kitchen area. Appliances may cause interference.

If the charge light does not remain on, clean the handset and base charging contacts using a pencil eraser. If it comes on after cleaning the contacts, you may need to charge the unit for 10 hours.

Make sure that the AC power cord is securely plugged into the base. If unsuccessful, plug the unit into a different known working outlet or turn on the switch on the power strip.

Handset won't charge

Hi,

Not using the handset for several months  would have allowed corrosion to develop on the charging contacts.  You have to use cotton buds and a strong solvent to clean the charging contacts.

Alternately, it may be that the battery is already dead and no longer would accept a charge.  These are plug-in types and are replaceable.  Incidentally, it is also possible that the corrosion developed on the battery connector contacts themselves.

Indication of corrosion would be dull colored contacts with bits of flakes - clean to make shiny again; the connector corrosion would be wet powdery greenish substance on the wires or connector from the battery.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

No Dial Tone

I have found this free link on BT site for you
http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/498n/025455.pdf

If the second handset works ok on the base and the first handset doesn't, then you are right...the fault lies with the first handset. There are batteries ( special type ) in the handset, it sound as if either the batteries are dead, or not charged ( try charging them for 12 hours on the good base station ) or the connection is bad.

Not Registered

I had the same problem and this procedure fixes it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset. It works! Rich (jambones.com)
