How to connect two 8 port dlink switch?

The cable modem will need to go through a router because it needs a NAT and PAT translation table, connecting the cable modem direct would lose the ability to get to the internet.

u no need to worry about the subnet mask 255.255.0.0
just do the following connections

1. connect a utp cable from modem/router to dlink switch.
   
2. connect a utp cable from switch to ur pc

Assign ur pc manually with following configuration

ip: 192.168.100.5
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.100.1

and your router with ip: 192.168.100.1 And enable pppoe in ur router.

Thats it you are connected to internet. No need to enable ics etc.

connect the router to the switch using any port-it does not matter which port you use. Connect each computer to any port on the switch-it matters not. The router will assign IP address to the computer as they are added.

No need to install the dlink on the imac. All you need to do is connect the modem first the dlink. (Modem connected to Internet or WAN port of the dlink). Now if they are connected, your imac should be plugged in to port 1 of dlink, and your PC to port 2. That should do it.

not instal dlink driver, problem for interner connection

other units cant connect to my installed port hub and were having hight mare connecting it

If the switch doesn't have an "uplink port" or autodetect the port speed, then you will need a crossover cable to connect the DLINK to the Surecom switch. If this is the same issue then rate this one so it can be closed. If not then let me know how it goes. Good Luck
