Lacie HD power light flashing yellow and orange

I had the same problem with a 1TB hard drive. The fault was caused by the casing being knocked from the computer and falling onto the desk. If the hard drive hadn't been powered up it would have been ok...
I removed the hard drive from the casing and fitted it into my computer as a slave drive, hoping to access all the music and movies stored in it. No go .. But, it's worth you fitting your hard drive as a slave and trying the same. It's worth a shot.
I took the hard drive to a computer market here in China, where I work. These guys take hard drives apart to fix them, if possible. They couldn't fix my hard drive as it had been powered on when it fell ..
However, I bought a new desktop hard drive and they were able to transfer 95% of all things from the old hard drive to the new one. The cost of transferring from the old hard drive to the new hard drive was the same as the price of the new hard drive. That specialist service doesn't come cheap ... but it can be done. I paid simply because I didn't want to lose what had taken more than a year to download.
Try fitting your hard drive as a slave to see if you can access the information on it. If not, a new hard drive and the cost of transferring your music from your old hard drive may be the only course of action left open to you

the power circuit is most likely blown. You can buy an external hard drive case and put the hard drive in it. Be sure to buy correct size hard drive enclosure. The other way is to remove hard drive from external case and put into computer with a spare sata connection.

Check with LaCie's support site at http://www.lacie.com/us/support/ and it's a good idea that you write down the serial number of your external disk.

Brand new? It needs to be formatted / erased with the disk utility to work with your mac.

my disk, when on, is not recognised by Windows while the light is flashing between yellow and orange fast (like a car's flash -faster-). please could anyone help me? - i need my data!

A power supply failure can cause this; I've just been through it myself. If you have access to another LaCie drive, try its power supply on the "failed" one and see if it works.

The problem is just external...Hdd is fine..Just buy new external couse there is no way to repair it

well the best thing i figured out to do was to purchase a new case. i think the case burned up. i pulled the hard drive out and hooked it up to another drive so to see if it would work. the drive works just fine in the other device, so i ordered another case.

-Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. -On the left, in the Storage folder, click on Disk Management. -If the Write Signature Wizard opens, follow the wizard. -If the wizard did not open, you can right-click on the disk "Unknown" in the bottom part of the Computer Management window and select Write Signature and OK. (If the disk is not labeled as "unknown" then it has already been initialized and you can proceed with formatting). -Then proceed with formatting below. Formatting: -Now right-click on the unallocated space of the disk and select New Partition. -The New Partition Wizard will open. -Click through the wizard. You can leave most settings at their defaults, but make sure to select the option to perform a Quick Format. This will perform a quick format, that will only take a few moments (depending on the size of the drive). Once completed, your disk should be accessible with the chosen drive letter in My Computer and Explorer.
