Icemaker does not work on subzero 650

Freezer is fine except for the icemaker which stopped working a few days ago...

  • Anonymous Dec 08, 2007

My SubZero 650 Ice maker just stopped working. I inspected the shutoff mechanism thoroughly and made sure the drawer was placed properly. It simply stopped working. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have a brand-new undercounter 24" bar Sub Zero and it has not made any ice since it was installed.  The lever id down and the water is turned on.  Is there any other switch to turn on?  The installer says it should work, but it doesn't.  The tray is in place.  Help. [email protected].

My ice maker on the Subzero 650 is up and running again. After checkig the tray and shutoff mechanism thoroughly I checked the display in the fridge aea and noticed a "service icemaker" indicator. I turned the icemaker off and then on again with no change. I then turned the power to the entire refridgerator/freezer unit off, waited ten seconds, and thurned it back on. This apparently must have reset some type of logic because the icemaker immediately began to cycle (ice ejector began to turn slowly) and then I heard the water soelenoid turn on to inject water into the ice trough. It's been 24 hours now and the icemaker tray is filling up nicely. I guess my icemaker just need to be rebooted. The miracles of modern technology. I appreciate the suggestions posted in response to my posting as well as the postings of others with similar issues as well as te corresponding suggestions. All of these together lead me to investigating areas that ultimately lead to resolution. I probably would have called for an expensive repairman if not for this forum. THANKYOU!

If the ice tray is incorrectly placed, it may interfer with the lever that shuts the icemaker off when the tray is full...Or it may be the solinoid that allows the inflow of water to your icemaker has become plugged, defective, or frozen and if yours has a filter, replace that also.

First remove tray and check all around the icemaker unit, look for cubes or other ice in contact with the icemaker, remove the ice, and if needed, use a hair-dryer to melt any that you cannot get at.(Be VERY careful the melt water doesn't drip onto the dryer!)
Check shutoff lever or wire for damage, and replace ice tray, insuring it seats rearward completely, check for ice in about 3 hours. If ice isn't made, and you know the filter is good, you will most likely have to replace the solinoid.

I have a Model BI-30U SZ. When I replaced the water filter: 1) about three hours later it made a noise like it was backfiring; 2) the freezer light went out; 3) the compressor (I think it is a compressor) in the freezer eventually would not turn off; 4) finally the ice maker stopped working. I shut off the Icemaker. Repairman came. Analysis: When water pressure is high (as it is in my apt), the filter spurts out some water. Water travels down the back of refrigerator, hits the switch in the freezer that controls the light (and I guess the icemaker?), freezes the switch in place. Solution: In the back of freezer compartment, bottom left on my model behind lower shelf, there is a "switch". It actually looks like a plastic triangle protruding into freezer. Just push the switch in and it will pop out. Light comes on. Everything begins to work again. Wish SZ telephone support could have just told me this rather than having me wait around for a repairman and loose time on phone calls and from work.

Mine quit also, I believe after we lost temp (dusty compressor), and after vacuuming it, and restoring function, came back down to temp, line must have frozen, and a hair dryer seemed to work.

My ice maker is making a clicking sound on my sub zero 650

Do you have water connected? Was it working before?

Disconnect the power to the icemaker. Does the clicking stop. If it does it is the servo motor. Sub Zero are highly overengineered, you will need a technician. These days they fix with a laptop.

How do you get an icemaker in a subzero 650 refrigerator to stop making ice when the bin is full?

There should be a metal bar that flips when it hits the ice at a certain level. It should stop automatically. There is a problem with the sensor.

My 650/f sub-zero is not cooling in the refer but the freezer is working fine?

Subzero uses two compressors so the freezer is a separate system. The first thing to do is clean the condenser. You can find instructions on how in the owners manual or at subzero.com. They even have videos. If that doesn't take care of it you could have a bad condenser fan motor a sealed system issue or a temperature sensor issue. Also I have seen if you put something tall enough to push up on the light cover on the top shelf that can stop the evaporator fan at the top of the refrigerator section.

Subzero 650 icemaker overflows

We had the same problem on our 650. It turns out that there is a white plastic arm attached to the icemaker shut-off switch. This plastic piece was knocked off sometime when we pulled open the freezer. I found it laying on the bottom of the freezer compartment.

I stumbled on this site while looking for the replacement part.

Look in your freezer at the icemaker. It is not easy since the upper drawer is in the way. You will see a metal wire that is the actuator for the shut-off switch. It should have a white piece of plastic clipped on the part that is closest to the ice bin. If not, or if only half of the plastic part is there, That is your problem.

Let us know if you find the part, how much it costs, where you got it.

Freezer Drawer Stuck

Our 550 bottom freezer drawer froze shut earlier this week and the motor made an unusual sound, like it was working too hard. Two of us eventually were able to open the drawer to find that it had frozen shut due to a leak which filled the ice tray solid and then adhered to the actual door, freezing it shut. We emptied the fridge and freezer, turned the control dials down to 0, but neither the motor nor the light would go off. We finally killed the circuit breaker to get the appliance to shut down. It's cleaned and defrosted and we noticed that the gasket has torn in three places, two on the fridge door and one on the freezer door. The freezer door could be from our tugging, but the refrigerator door is normal wear and tear. We filled the tears with some kind of putty and when it is dry we will start everything up again. This is not the first problem of this nature we have experienced with our subzero 550, but it is the most dramatic. Each previous time we have called a repair man out and he has been unable to fix it.
