Sony 57 Inch XBR 2001

I have the Sony HD 57 inch Rear Projection XBR, that I purchased in 2001. We have just recently hooked it up to a HD cable box. I have not noticed a significant change in the picture quality. I have inputs going into the red, green and blue HD inputs. Do I also need inputs into the HD and VD inputs? What else could be wrong? Or are my expectations of picture quality too high for such an old TV?

I don't have the XBR, but on my sony, using the cable box remote, I had to go into menu/display/etc. and mark the 1080i, 720p, and 480i settings. you usually get a "if you can see this" comment if your tv accepts the settings. for standard tv i set the screen to normal, and when the upper channels go to HD, they auto go to full screen. Sounds like you are using the component cable, and also make sure you are on the video port of remote, and the the TV input. The above worked for mine. Hope it helps.

I want to know what type of cable wire do you need to hook up for HDTV and where you hook it up at on the TV

HD can come from two types of cables. A RF cable, normally it is a RG 6 or maybe a RG 59 coax cable. A HDMI cable is the other method of obtaining HD on your HDTV. A HDMI cable has a rectangular shape with small pins, its about 1/2 inch wide by 1/8 inch in height. The RF connector is about 1/4 in circular. A HD signal can come from a cable box or it can come from a DVD or Blue Ray player. Google these type of cables and look on your TV for the connectors.

57H83 57 in. Rear Projection HDTV Television: I have a Toshiba 57H83 and recently purchased the ...

I would suggest to leave your directtv hd/dvr box connected the way It is.
The HD Colorstream 1input on your TV should work just fine.
This TV does not have an HDMI input but you can buy an adapter and connect to DVI/HDCP IN and that might be able to get 1080i video resolution on your TV.

there is a posibility that there is a magnet near... see if there are big speakers around others that aren't the one that has built in..

the other posibility is that it has loss configuration... try to check the manual for proper configuration or send it to a authorized sony repair guy so he might flash firmware.
