first, you need to have it installed in your phone (guess you'r already there)
complete the sign up and confirm you'r phone number (you will recieve a confirmation code on you mobile number) and you need to be connected to internet
check if the person you want to send SMS to does have the app installed in his phone and he's connected to internet

Settings, Messages, and under SMS/MMS, MMS should be set to on.

This following solution was suggested on youtube, it worked for me. There is one negative point about it: ALL YOUR OLD MESSAGES WILL BE DELETED
If you delete your sms.db file (located in: var\mobile\library\sms) it fixes it, you can open and send\recieve sms. i think the only permanent solution is to upgrade to 1.1.3 with itunes and start again (im asuming u got the bug using ziphone, i did). i installed isms as a backup sms service incase it stops working, which it does often. you cant look at recieved messages, but good for sending sms if sms.ap is playing up
