Onkyo reciever (R550) and comcast cable box won't talk to each other

Comcast cable box and PS3 connected to reciever with HDMI cable. Cable box freezes or refuses to turn on. If problem is 'HDMI handshake', I have no ideas. Switched the cable box and HDMI wire - no help. Cable box works after it is unplugged and reboots, (picture and surround sound are perfect) but then cable box freezes, (box will not change stations or turn on, either by remote or pushing box buttons) after the system is turned off. When cable box is hooked directly to TV with HDMI cable, everything works fine. PS3 works fine through the reciever. pleae help.

I have the same problem. The only thing I can or recommend is to leave the receiver on. If the receiver is turned off the motorola DCH3416 box freezes and I need to reboot. Also if watching on-demand through the motorola DCH3416, I have to mute the receiver or turn the volume down or I get a really load popping noise and receiver reboots. This is all I can recommend as the Motorola box seems to have an engineering flaw and reboots all the time, even while i try to scroll through channels or record shows.

I am trying to hook up my tv through a onkyo receiver with polk audio speakers what is the best way to hook this up my cable system is from comcast with their hd converter box.

Use either an optical cable to your reciever or a digital coax, which ever you can or do use will give you dolby digital. Unless your onkyo has hdmi swithching. In that case you will need 2 cables, those are the best for picture and sound all in one cable.

Issues Displaying picture from HDMI upconversion

I've posted this other places. Hope it helps.

My HT-S6100 had a similar problem with my DVD player and some times with my Cable/DVR box. The signal wasn't getting received at the TV. So, first I changed the input jacks my DVD and Cable box are plugged into on the receiver (e.g. from HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 to HDMI 2 & HDMI 4). Second, I reprogrammed the Input Assignments to match (e.g. HDMI in 2&4). Third, I deleted any Input Assignments that weren't applicable. For instance, I'm only using HDMI connections, but there were Digital and Component Input Assignments programmed in. When I say I deleted them, I actually set them to "----" (just scroll through the options and you'll find this.) Finally, I turn on my video/audio sources (PS3 in your case) and let them load/warm up before I turn on my Onkyo receiver. It seems to be working. Good luck.

Humming sound on cable setting

have you tried to input another audio source into the audio inputs on the reciever that the cable box outputs are going into on the reciever ?
you may also need to ground the recievers frame and cable box frame to earth ground.
you also may have a bad connection in the wires or jacks for the audio connections
or the cable box audio out circuit needs repair

No surround sound from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100. Video OK

Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.

thanks.

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

How to Hook up HDMI from Comcast Motarola Cable Box

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

PS3 - Sony Reciever HT-SF2300 - Aquas A83 LCD TV

Make sure you have selected the HDMI output option in the PS3 menu, otherwise you will get no picture or sound, connect you standard cable to your tv first which came with PS3 to do this first.

Samsung lcd ln46a550pf3 no sound from hdtv reciever

ok your tv does not come with the very best sound, you have to get a receiver 7.1 or you can use the optical wire , that's if the system you are using has that option.
