Try a factory reset, if that doesn't help you may need a new main board

I conneted my dell personal computer to the rgb (pc) port on the back of my lg 42 plasma tv. the screen show dell icon and then a went blank and a message appeared stating invalid format. james...

It maybe that the resolution and /or the frequency (Hz) on you pc is not supported by the tv.
Supported resolutions.
  • Supported computer resolutions 640 x 350,
    720 x 400,
    1360 x 768,
    1920 x 1080,
    640 x 480 (VGA),
    1024 x 768 (XGA),
    800 x 600 (SVGA),
    1280 x 768 (WXGA),
    1280 x 1024 (SXGA),
    1600 x 1200 (UXGA)
Or you should use the HDMI connector which is reported to work well..

On my LG20LS7D using hdmi cable I get a blank screen saying invalid format, why

You get 'INVALID FORMAT' because the video signal source resolution is too high for the TV to display, you need to lower your video source resolution.

I have had this same issue.

Problem your tv isnt true 1080p meaning it will not work however when you switch to componet cables goto menu then change the display settings to 720p or 1080i then your HDMI connection should work fine.

Invalid format

Try rechecking all wire connections for proper placement and fit too and from the tv.
Try adjusting the video format on the DVD, flip through 480p and 1080i. See which format works best with your tv. Do the same with Wii.

See if this helps.

"Invalid Format" message

Hello,

This should help you. I think Chris Duckworth said it best. "sounds to me like your refresh rates or resolution may be set too high on the XP machine."

Go to this website to get the rest about setting up your tv as a monitor. Type invalid in the word search to get to the relevant section.

Cant connect to pc

It high definition digital signal. You will need a HD cable not a vga (that is analog).
Check in you tv manual. It should give you options of what cable to use. May need the HDMI cable.
