Cannot adjust speed on a vintage Technics SL-B30 Turntable

When the turntable is powered on, the platter starts beautifully (a new belt recently installed). The problem is, it is rotating at about 50 rpm and can not be slowed down or adjusted by moving either the pitch control OR the 33/45 selector. Also, the 2 speed pots on the servo control circuit board don't seem to have any effect either. (There is NO control over the turntable speed which is much faster than normal). HELP! Thanks in advance.

Get some deoxit, spray it into the speed selector switch and the trim pots and move them back and forth for a couple of minutes.

SOLVED!!! I had the exact same problem after my Technics SL-BD35 had been stored away for years in my attic. The problem is not on the circuit board. It's in the motor. There is a magnet on the motor spindle that is picked up by a sensor to detect speed so the circuit can regulate to the adjusted speed. That magnet came loose from the spindle and was sitting still. No spinning magnet means no feedback to the speed circuit so the circuit cranks the motor speed to max. I used superglue to glue the magnet back on the spindle. TADAA!! Turntable works like new. First has anybody tried to repair it before you got it Gerry? I ask this because someone could have fitted the wrong type motor!
If nobody has done anything to it, I would take a look at that servo control board. Is there any IC's on it, if there is look at them with suspicion.

Just bought a new technics sl-1200 turntable and the pitch speeds up and down causing music to sound funny....

You will need to check your belt for wear. Lift felt on platter and check belt tension. It may need replacing. To replace, simply lift platter section of the unit, taking note of the belt position. replace and your problem will be solved

Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:
  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

I need to put new turntable belt on a Technics SL-B200

The belt goes underneath the turntable platter. First you attach to the lip on the bottom of the turntable platter, then you put the platter on the turntable. You'll see some holes on the platter, after you put it on, just rotate the platter, until you see the motor shaft, then pinch the belt around the motor shaft.

LP Turntable

the platter must be able to spin freely without a belt installed as shown in this video

that would be one likely cause presuming you have the correct new belt that is.

Turntable grinds to a halt.

The Technics SL-BD22 is a belt driven turntable. It is most likely possible that the belt wore off, wore down, or could have spun off. The platter should have 2 holes in it. One of them should alow you to see, and replace the belt. YOu can lift the platter off the turntable via those two holes. MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF AND UNPLUGGED......

You can find a replacement @

http://1200s.com/Store/PARTS-TECHNICS-TURNTABLES-Drive_Belts/c271_272_278_398/index.html

And the part should come with instructions. Those guys are very thorough.

Keep me posted.

Technics problems

There is no drive belt on this unit. This is a direct drive turntable. Your pitch control might be on it's way out. Are you getting any sort of unusual speed issues? Or is it just sort of running slower than usual? There is a pot you can adjust under the turntable platter to speed it up a bit, however, this is only a temporary fix. It is listed as VR301 - and is on the main board under the turntable platter - it says PITCH on it. Try adjusting that pot, to see if it does anything. WORD OF CAUTION: Make sure your turntable platter is ALWAYS on whenever you power up your turntable, and if you do any electrical modifications, make sure you always disconnect your turntable from it's power source to be on the safe side. If this does not work, then either your pitch control (which is a variable resistor) will need to be replaced. The problem could also be one of the drive components on the main board, however, this will need to be worked on by a service tech. Hope this helps. - Justin
