I have a Nikon D40X. The histogram keeps coming up and I don't know how to get rid of it when I take pictures. I looked in the manual but couldn't find how to get rid of the histogram. I was in the midst of taking pictures when the histogram started popping up. Thanks for your help! [email protected]

Usually there is an info or display button that you can cycle through the different modes: Full screen playback, with shot information, histogram and RGB Histogram. Refer to your manual to find the exact procedure.
Bring up the photo on the camera.
Press up or down until you get the histogram (yellow graph). When you
get this, press up once, and look at the bottom of the screen.
I had this problem too and then I figured it out. If you click on the up button it pulls up your histogram, just keep pressing it till it shows just the picture. I will scroll through the index, histogram, highlight, and then normal. Hope this helps.
While viewing the picture press the up arrow on the arrow pad. It will scroll through the index (the one you are stuck on), highlight, histogram and then back to normal view.
to turn this setting off just press the down arrow button when reviewing your photos. you will scroll through a number of ways to view tho photo including histogram, and one of the settings is just the picture.
The flashing is the HIGH KEY area or highlights .Read camera manual on exposure for highlights also read the section on histograms to help you understand the relationship of exposure and contrast.
Flashig areas show HIGH KEY or HIGHLIGHTS in image, these areas indicate where exposure compensation can be made. They also change to normal function on first magnification point.
Check the manual on highlights also good reading in the histogram section and you will start to understand about contrast and exposure.
Have FUN.
