Is this Craftsman 16" chainsaw broken? Hardly. Watch this carburetor fix and how it runs brand new!
There is no fixed carburetor setting on these engines, just two screws to adjust low-end and high-end operation. Special tool may be required, there are about a half-dozen screw head standards. Check eBay for tool. Get the engine to run and idle fast (idle adjust) so it doesn't stall, adjust low-end screw so that engine doesn't hesitate or sputter when accelerated. Adjust high-end screw to run fast and smooth on full throtle. Readjust idle to normal.
Ok, always use good quaility teo stroke oil, from a manufacturer who actually produces a chainsaw, ie Husqvarna/Stihl/Jonsered etc, all of these oils should be run at 50-1, avoid oil makes you have never heard of.
Starting instructions are as follows, switch the red ignition switch too on ( up ) depress the primmer bulb as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb ( you cannot flood the engine if you over prime, it is better to over prime ) pull the blue choke fully out, crank the engine until it fires once ( it will only fire once, do not continue to crank the engine after it first fires with the choke still out ) now push the choke fully back in, crank the engine until it fires up and runs on fast idle, now blip the throttle trigger to diss engage the fast idle position, the saw should now drop down to idle.
Regards
there is two adj screws on the side of the saw below the primer bulb. get a small screwdiver flat or phillips depending on the brand, start saw with full thottle and start turning idle screw till you get it to idle then adjust from there
Check the air cleaner, muffler, and fuel filter for any plugging. Check the fuel lines for condition. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. If all are ok, then set the L needle CW to it's stop (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns. Start the engine and allow to warm up, then turn the needle CW until the engine runs fairly well, but allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed screw so that the chain stops moving, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!
You don't want to tighten them down just turn them in until the are just snug and then turn them out. Start with the low at 2 full turns out and the high at about 1 full turn out. Start the saw and let it idle adjust the low idle to where it runs smooth. Adjust the high until the saw runs as much rpm as you can get at w.o.t. (Wide Open Throttle).
