Hi,
Do you mean the lens cover on the end of the lens Is not opening properly, or the shutter inside the lens?

Has the shutter broke? I have had and used this

remove bottom cover and check for one or more loose or missing ground screws on the bottom board (under the tripod mount plate). If it is missing, you can usually find it sticking to one of the motors

Fujifilm S1500. Batter compart doesn't close

If you can't return the camera for service, my advice would be to close the battery compartment with tape. Not pretty but better than buying a new camera, I've done it a few times on old cameras and apart from cosmetics, works fine. Just make sure to use enough tape so the batteries won't fly out when using it.

Try the video function.
If this works fine then it is most probably the shutter sticking.
To confirm the shutter is sticking turn the camera on, put the zoom to full optical and turn it to face you so you can see into the lens. Watch the inner part of the lens when you take a picture. You should see the shutter fire across the lens. Lines on pictures or over exposed pictures are caused by gaps in the shutter or the shutter failing to fire altogether.
Moisture residue on the shutter leafs is the common cause for this problem.
Some people on here have their own views about what causes lines on photo's. Someone even said digital cameras do not have a shutter and problems were due to software issues....
I have dealt with 100's of different models, including Fuji's E900 and always have found moisture residue to be the cause.

Fujifilm e900 shuts down when shutter is pressed

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Canon SD1000 shows black screen when trying to take a picture

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

My pictures look like I took a picture of a TV

Lines on your pictures are due to the shutter not closing completely. The video should work fine indicating there is no problem with the sensor. Shutter needs cleaning, inspecting for obstruction

Fujifilm E900 camera zoom does not function!

If the shutter and Zoom function both do not operate, you need to send the camera to an authorised repair center. Was the camerra exposed to salt/sea air? If so, you can take a soft rag and gently wipe around the lens area where it meets the body, remove the battery, reinstall the battery and try it. If not, send it in.

FinePix E900 battery problem

The support desk at Fujifilm got me to insert new batteries (rechargables) and try again. The batteries did not die but in the viewer, the picture is very bright (white) and has close horizonal lines running across the picturere. They want me to send it in by registered post (cost to me), only give a quote after inspecting it - which is far enough, but if I don't go ahead with the repairs, it will cost me $40 to get the camera back (as if it would be any good to me). Their web site states that the average repair is about $120, but it could be lots more. When I paid nearly $700 for the thing I expected it to last more than just over a year.
I rang several camera repairers who all told me that the only place that can repapir Fujifilm is Fuji themselves. This is not good and I won't be buying another Fujifilm again.

Wierd pictures

This is caused by a shutter that is stuck open. Normally the shutter closes right at the moment that you snap the picture and allows the image sensor to record what it saw at that moment. When the shutter does not close as intended the image sensor cannot properly record the image. This is why here are the lines across your images. The shutter can stick either due to an impact knocking the delicate blades off their tracks, or due to dust or moisture contamination sticking them open or closed. If gently tapping does not free them; the camera will require professional repair. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
