Toc error means "table of contents" error... means the player is unable to read the disc at all. May have a dirty focal lense to laser. clean gently with some windex on a cotton wool bud. It may be a faulty spindle motor that spins the disc. the bearings get worn or uneven and do not allow for disc reading to be successful. a check for this is a drop of oil to the bearing. It may then start to read discs, but will still require the motor to be replaced. . Check for the above... but if there is more required, take it to a Kenwood 'Agent... it may need a laser change

Toc error 14

On questions like this it would help if we knew the manual was or was not consulted.

And if it was NOT, why.

C14 / TOC Error The unit did not read the TOC information. Insert other discs.

http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq02.html#S2-19

[Extract]

"If you write data to a disc and leave the session open, the TOC -- which tells the CD player or CD-ROM drive where the tracks are -- is written into a separate area called the Program Memory Area, or PMA. CD recorders are the only devices that know to look at the PMA, which is why you can't see data in an open session on a standard playback device. CD players won't find any audio tracks, and CD-ROM drives won't see a data track. When the session is finalized, the TOC is written in the lead-in area, enabling other devices to recognize the disc.
(Something to try: write an audio track to a blank CD, and leave the session open. Put the disc in a CD player. Some players will deny the existence of the disc, some will spin the disc up to an incredible speed and won't even brake the spindle when you eject the disc, others will perform equally random acts. The TOC is important!)"

TOC eror

The TOC error is the same error seen on computer disks, TOC is the table of content, this has to be read before the the unit will know the details of tracks etc......

If every disk inserted (not just burned discs) has this error, the laser is faulty or out of alignment. Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Kenwood KDC-MP528 CD TOC ERR

Every one of those Kenwoods that I have fixed with that error needed the laser pick up replaced. so there is no easy fix for it.

If you have tried several disc's and they all have a TOC err, and you know the disc's are in decent condition, then you will need the pick up replaced.

First try cleaning the disc you are using. I use windex and a soft cloth like a bath towel, it works great at getting fingerprints and other stuff off the disc without scratching the disc. A bad fingerprint or a bad scratch right at the innermost part of the disc (where the TOC is located) will cause any CD player to not read the TOC, producing a TOC ERROR. you never know, you might get lucky.

Toc error

I have repaired many of these cd players working at an authorized Kenwood service center for over 17 years.

There are only 2 things you can do as the end user of this unit.

1. Try cleaning the disc's. If the cd has any fingerprints or scratches on the inner most part of the cd, the laser will not be able to read the TOC. It is the first thing the cd player tries to do and if that fails for any reason, the disc can not be played at all.
You can purchase a disc cleaning kit, or you can do what I do. I spray a small amount of windex on the data side of the disc and then clean it with a soft cloth like a bath towel or terry cloth. This works as good or better than the cleaning kits and is much cheaper.

If that does not work you can go to the next step.

2.. Clean the lens of the laser with a cd cleaning disc. They can be purchased at many stores that sell cd players and music cd's.
You put it in the player and let it run about 20 to 30 seconds and then you eject it.

If neither of these things help, you most likely have a bad laser pick up. You will need to take it to an authorized Kenwood service center and you can count on the repair being anywhere from $120 to $175. Depending on the rates and the mark-up of the laser pick up.

This is a very good car stereo, and is probably worth the repair cost, but it does have a 2 year warranty. It is not too old, so it may still be under warranty. If so, the repair is free for you.

I hope this helps you with this problem, and if so, a good rating is always appreciated.

Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

TOC Error

Burned ones? Or do "real" CDs do it, too? If ALL do, then the laser was damaged or misalligned and will have to be serviced.

What does toc err mean?

TOC is table of contents. Typically if its on a recorded cd try burning a cd from antoher computer and try it, if it works its most likely that your burner or software or ccd's your using are bad. Also is it a MP3 disc your trying to play? If so then you MUST burn it as a MP3 cd. You cant just burn MP3's to a CD and it read them. If this is the case thats why you are getting the TOC error because its not writing to the CD whats on the CD on the TOC area of the disc.
