Hi, my 30g zune I just bought will not connect to my fully up to date Windows XP sp2. I install the software then connect the zune via the supplied usb sync cable. Windows displays the found new hardware pop up, the zune pop up, then your new hardware is installed and ready to use pop up. Then the usb connected icon that sits on bottom right of the task bar goes away and windows starts making the default sound for connecting and unconnecting a usb device over and over and over... I took the zune back and exchanged it for a new one. Just got home and...samething. Some people on the web say there software prompts them to connect there zune sometime during the install. My software installs and does not prompt me. Which I have deleted and reinstalled with the same result... Can you help me please?
Hey!! I just fixed mine! I had recently installed drivers for a PS3 controller, and for some reason those were conflicting with the Zune.
To fix it, I went to add/remove programs, and then removed the libusb program, that fixed it instantly! Good luck!
Install windows media runtime 11 (for xp)
uninstall then reinstall zune driver
update driver
reset device
restart pc
try this also:
1. Disconnect your Zune device and close the Zune software.
2. Click Start and select Run.
3. Type regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Zune\zunesp.dll".
4. Click OK.
You should then see a message reading: DllRegisterServer in C:\Program Files\Zune\zunesp.dll succeeded.. Click OK start your Zune software and connect the device."
If ur havin trouble wit the zune gettin recognize with ur computer just restart ur zune by holdin the back key and on the pad press up at the same time it shoukd work
That is what mine is doing, I bought an 80 GB zune yesterday and it was working great and then I downloaded a movie that had a virus/bug on it and now when I plug it in to a new computer it says, Found new hardware, then I add the new hardware and I think everything is great, but then it says a device that I have plugged into the USB port has malfunctioned and cannot work, and it wont connect my zune, but I know it works because it still shows the lightning bolt on the battery that signals it is charging, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED!!!!

See Microsoft? This is your problem, it is not that people hate you, it is just that your programmers are plain stupid.
Here is how i fixed this problem. Reinstall the zune device firmware. Mine PC lost communication with the zune. It will charge but it won't be detected by the zune software and therefore not synching. After trying all the "Googling" nothing worked. Since i already had my music on my PC (Because i ha connected the zune sussesfully before), i was not not afraid to reinstall the firmware on my zune.

I had the same problem. I tried all the stuff I found on google (resetting the zune, trying to reinstall drivers, reinstalling software, etc) and it didn't work. Then I installed windows media runtime 11 for xp as suggested in #8 and it works perfectly now! I have no idea what it is or what it does, but it works so I don't care. I never would have discovered this by myself. Thank you!
I had the some of the same issues and found the problem was with my HP all in one printer driver and how it interacts with my USB ports. When I turn the power off on the printer the zune connects and syncs fine. If I forget to turn off the printer the zune software does not recognize the zune device. Why? I don't know but it does it every time
Open Power Options.
Click Change plan settings on the chosen preferred plan.
Click Change advanced power settings.
USB Settings/USB selective suspend setting
Change the setting to Disabled.
Reboot and try connecting again.
Your computer's BIOS might also require a modification to a similar setting, as well. Mine did not.
My Zune was working fine until today. For some reason it's not being detected by Vista.
It's charging and showing in device manager, however, with a yellow exclamation point next to it.

Try the Zune on a different PC. If that also fails, there is an issue with your motherboard (could be your dock connector or an electronic problem). There are third party iPod repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI iPod repair guide,so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available onEbay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do it for you. If it does work on a different PC, then the issue lies within your windows. If you re-install your PC to factory and then re-install fresh zune software it should work.
Alrightyy, with my zune, i have a 30gb, i had the same problems over and over again.
But i can to realize, every few times i reset it, it worked. Then i could connect and sync music like nothing was wrong.
When I installed the 3.1 software with the games, my zune wouldn't connect. So, I reset my zune again, and reinstalled the firmware WITHOUT the games, and viola. It works completly correctly.
So if you have a zune 30, hard reset it(back+up+middle) and reset your zune tag. It deletes everything on your zune harddrive, so be sure all your music is on your zune library.
Next, connect the the PC and install firmware WITHOUT the games.
And there you goo, a perfectly functional zune. (:

If you zune died you have to wait until the battery is about 1\16 th of the way charged then your computer should read it if it doesn't and you have a full battery then i don't know wat to tell you sorry.

Ladies and gentlemen, i have the solution to everyones problem. First of all, i had moved my OS to a new Hard drive and my zune 30 would charge but not install correctly. Turns out i had a few corrupted system files. All recent windows OS's have a program that verifies system data, i ran it and afterwards it fixed corrupted files and my zune synced instantly. Go into command prompt, or "cmd" and type sfc /scannow. This will fix your problems

This worked for me...first i uninstalled to Zune program then plugged in my Zune (still my pc wasn't reading my Zune)...then i installed the Zune software back on my computer while leaving the Zune plugged in via the usb sync cable then it started to read it and work perfectly fine.

Just bought one new in box and having the same problem. I was hoping to have it loaded before my hubby got home as a surprise. I've been messing with it for 2 hours now! I'm experiencing the same problem. The Zune say's it's connected, but the Zune software doesn't see it. I reinstalled the orginal software, no luck. Then updated the orginal software, no luck. I've reset the Zune device, no luck. My device manager indicates that the Zune is connected and happy - no yellow exclamation points. At one point the Zune could connect, not sure what happened. Exact same problem - I run XP, just bought a Zune 8gb. The Zune software installed fine, the zune itself charged just fine, I plugged it into the usb port on the BACK of the pc (not the front and not via a usb hub, as I've seen suggested several times). My pc keeps beeping like it's recognizing the device, but it won't sync and there is no indication on the zune software when I log in that its recognizing the zune. It keeps saying "to check status connect Zune", when it's already connected. So I can't sync, etc. going to try the recommended fix below but if it doesn't work it's going back to the store....

Everything was working perfect when I first got it, but after a couple months when I took the cable out of the zune after recharging, like I always do, suddenly my zune pad wouldn't work. It wasn't locked or anything either... so I tried restarting it and it never came back on.... so I slammed it to the ground and it started working again.
