I pulled the cord to start my weed eater and it wouldn't retract. I went to the manual and followed the instruction on how to restring the starter rope. After reassembly, the cord is hard to pull and still will not retract. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I had the same problem with another model 2 years ago.
The spring is either broken or the catch on the end of it isn't seated, this is a coil spring inside the hub, probaly has to be rewound to gain the tension back
Testimonial: "thanks for the feedback. i was thought it was the spring. just can't figure out how to keep the spring in place while putting everything back together"
This a common problem but you can fix it with a new spring I think you will find that most of the more inexpensive trimmers are easier to buy a new one than to put alot of time and money into the old one
Testimonial: "unfortunately i'm starting to think that you are correct. i just hate to spend $$ if i don't have to."

Sounds like the starter dogs are broken. They are little plastic teeth that engage to turn the engine when you pull the cord. You'll need to replace the whole starter assembly to fix this.
