If the exhaust is partially blocked with carbon it will act this way, try cleaning the muffler ,or poss the carb may need rebuild,if it had gas sitting in it for a while it will eat up the carb diaphram

My 11.5hp B&S Riding mower sat for a long time with a dead battery. When I replaced the battery I found that the darn thing wouldn't start now it will start, but only runs a few seconds and dies.

you have done something wrong with the needle and seat when you cleaned the carby out
That will allow fuel to continually flow to fill the sump
remove and overhaul the carby correctly

GX (or GTX, not sure) 360, 5.5 hp Honda engine on a pressure washer; engine will start and run perfect for about 30-45 seconds, no smoke or rough idle during that time, then engine dies and will not start...

Try draining all the fuel from the tank and carburetor. Replenish with fresh fuel. Try using an additive that keeps the fuel fresh longer and will displace some moisture. Good luck.

2001 yamaha breeze wont stay running

i had the same issue. it's gonna be a blockage in one of the vent tubes to the carb. check the line to the left of the carb that runs next to the gas tank. if thats fine then check the gas cap line. then if thats all good then check the line that runs below the carb. these are all vent tubes and allow the carb. to refill with fuel

1994 700..Starts immediately w/starting fluid.. Runs for seconds & throttles ok and then dies. Will restart again same way and then dies again. Just acquired, everything looks great & clean, all...

Well you didn't specify what kind of motor it is just that it's a 1994. If it runs when you use starting fluid but dies then the problem has to be fuel. I'm assuming you've changed the fuel filter. I'm not sure what kind of an engine you're talking about here but if it hasn't been run for two years and it has a carburetor the float could be stuck. If it is stuck in the up position this would block fuel from entering the carburetor. Check it, the fuel filter and the line coming from the tank and trace the fuel supply all the way to the engine from the tank.

My bike starts but dies right away what's wrong

Sounds as if you don't have any gas to give it! Turn off the tank fuel tap, remove the carburetor fuel hose, and place the end in a clean can or jar. Turn on the tap again--you should get a small stream of fuel running from the hose. If it just drips, turn off the tap again, unscrew the small bowl under the tap and remove the brass filter screen just above the bowl. Soak it for a while in carburetor cleaner, rinse in fresh cleaner, then put it all back together. Turn on tap again and check for fuel flow. If still weak, turn the tap to 'reserve' position--is the flow still weak? If so, remove the fuel tap bowl and place the can/jar underneath and turn the tap on again. If still slow, open the fuel cap up on top to make sure that tank vacuum is not stopping flow. If nothing helps, you will need to remove the tank, drain the fuel out and remove the fuel tap to clean the two tubes that are sticking out of the top. You may need compressed air to get this accomplished. Good luck!

Mini-mac 6 won't start

Engine needs spark and fuel to run. Does the spark plug fire when pulled through (remove the plug from the engine and clean around the plug base before taking the plug out)? Does it have fresh oil/fuel mixture? Try squirting a little fuel mix directly into the cylinder spark plug hole, and return the plug (if it was sparking). It should pop a couple of times--might even keep running! If it won't fire again (with the choke closed), then the carburetor probably needs attention. Has the saw been in storage for some time with old fuel left in the tank? If so, wash out the fuel tank with new fuel and pull the starter a number of times with new fuel in the tank. This engine runs fine with 40:1 or 50:1 (with right 2-stroke oil) fuel/oil mix.

My mcCulloch mini mac 25 starts, runs, and cuts, but when it warms up it dies and will not restart

It sounds like the fuel cap is clogged. The fuel cap must be able to breathe in order for the carburetor to operate properly.

One way to be sure that it is the fuel cap is: The next time the chainsaw starts to die, loosen the cap for a second or two, it should start running properly again.

Wont start after 6 mos. I changed the spark plug, drained & added fresh gas, checked the fuel filter... Kicks over fine. Ran for 4 seconds, then it died. Always ran & started great before.

With a new plug and fresh gas it should start. Check to make sure there isn't a kill switch turned off or that the gas petcock from the tank to the carb is on.

How did you check the fuel filter? Disconnecting it from the fuel line that goes to the carb is the best way, making sure the gas is turned on under the tank. Bleed off a little gas into a can or something just to make sure the filter isn't plugged.

The last thing I'd do is take off the air filter and spray a little starting fluid in the carb. It may start and run several times if there is old gas in there somewhere. Remember the bowl on the carb is probably still full of old gas. After some fresh fuel reaches the plug it should start and continue to run.

(You might drain the bowl on the carb of ols gas before you go any further)

Good luck!
