Cannot scan from HP 6500 E709n (No Scan Options). Using Windows XP, wirelessly connected.

  • Anonymous Aug 24, 2009

I did everything you said to do and I'm still having the same problem. I cannot scan from the printer (i get the No Scan Options msg). I cannot scan from the HP Solutions Center application either. If I choose Set Scan To it just hangs, and if I choose Scan a Document it just hangs there too. The only way I can scan is thru WebScan or Scanner & Camera Wizard. I am running Windows XP.

The shortcut is:
c:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin\hpiscnapp

Testimonial: "Thanks, that totally worked. I still wish i could scan from the printer, though."

BINGO!! This is the best answer so far!! thank you thank you, I have to search for a solution every time I scan. When you go to the file, CREATE A SHORTCUT ON YOUR DESKTOP in case you forget where the file is.

It sounds like you followed HP's instructions to install and configure the printer for wireless connectivity.

Go to the HP website and download...
HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver (English Only)
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver (English Only)
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver (English Only)
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver (English Only)

Make a note of your wireless configuration settings in the printer. The settings should stay intact through the following procedure but it doesn't hurt to have the info.

  1. Run the software and driver removal utility.
  2. Reboot your pc.
  3. Verify your printer still has the proper wireless settings.
  4. Run the full feature software install package and choose the network install option. (The installation program should be able to detect your wireless printer at this point and install the software correctly.)
Post a reply if you're still running into problems.

The links above aren't working correctly. Here's a link directly to the HP support site where you can get the files you need.

Download the uninstall utility and the full software install package.

Are you in fact connecting to the printer wirelessly?

Was the install program able to detect your printer when you chose the network install option?

Forget the previous 2 questions. You may have success in getting the scanning features to work the way you want if you use the wired ethernet port.

There is an issue with the wireless scanning features of this specific All in One printer according to information I was able to find on HP's consumer forum.

Some individuals have called HP and got a tech on the phone who created a shortcut named HP Support on their desktop which they have to use any time they want to scan something. No specific details were provided about the target file of this shortcut.

Others called HP support and weren't so fortunate. Those individuals were told the the wireless scanning capabilities are limited to the features available when using the internal webpage ( Webscan ).

You best option would be to call HP support (800-474-6836) and be persistent until you can speak with a tech that will create the shortcut for you.

You can, and it's really easy!
Go to this site and download the software under drivers called "HP Officejet and Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v 10.6".
Unplug your all in one printer/scanner and install the program. Then plug the printer/scanner back in and it should work fine - you'll have all the options you had previously.

The fix from HP is to reinstall Windows 7... Yes. That is ridiculous.
HP considers this to be a windows problem and not a printer problem.

If you're running an OS other than Win 7 try reinstalling the drivers. You can find them here:

I just bought a new HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - E709n. When I try to scan, it tells me I have no scan options. What do I do?

If you're using Vista, I had the same problem. To scan, go to MS Paint and choose "file" and "from scanner or camera" then save the file it scans. That worked well for me, as a go-around for Vista. Hope this helps! Lisa
