Frozen screen RCA M4208RD-B (OPAL logo +word "Intializing")

My RCA M4208RD-B MP3 player has been working just fine for several months now. Yesterday when I turned it on the screen froze with the OPAL logo and the word "Initializing" at the bottom. I tried turning it off, then on again, and the same thing happens. I tried pluggin it in to recharge and norhing happens (the screen stays off). I turned it back on and the same thing happens (OPAL logo with the word "Initializing". I left it on in that condition thinking maybe it's just taking a very long time to initialize. But, it stayed that way unitl the battery ran out. Can you tell me what's wrong with it? Will I be able to have the battery replaced if it needs a battery? Please help me!

FASTEST & EASIEST FIX:
1) connect player to computer
2) backup any media you don't want to lose
3) delete ALL files on player
4) disconnect player from computer
5) turn on player - os will recreate all core files

This is the only hard reset option there is, but it works faster than trying to update the firmware.

My Opal is not changing from the Intializing screen!!!! How do i fix this!!!

Consulting the RCA site gives next steps for initializing screen:
Step 1: Disconnect your Player
Step 2: Reset your Player
  1. If your Player uses AA or AAA batteries, remove them from the Player
  2. If your Player uses an internal battery, press and hold the POWER button for 10 seconds
Step 3: Hold down the PLAY key on your Player and connect it to the PC via a USB cable.

Step 4: Release the PLAY key when a progress bar and text, "initializing" appears on the Players display. If you cannot see the "initializing" text, please disconnect your Player and try again.

Firmware for my rca opal m4208rd

This is a very common problem with the RCA Opal.
You need to goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware.
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=408
Download the firmware from there. Plug in your mp3 player. (don't worry if it cant be found bye the PC it will when the firmware installs)
After the mp3 player is plugged into the usb device of your pc install the newly downloaded firmware. And it should work fine.

RCA Opal 8 gb mp3 player stuck in initializing mode

I had this problem. I had to really try several different things to get the software to recognize the mp3 player. RCA does have download software that will format your MP3 player and put the firmware on the player. It would be better to get the firmware on without formatting if you have files already on it. Just be sure that you get the screen that shows it is connected to USB.

Cant find the reset switch

If it's anything like the opal M4002 then on the back of the player there will be a small hole into which you can insert a small implement (like a toothpick) and press the reset button.

After a firmware update my RCA M4208RD-B won't work.

Download the firmware again.
after its download get the firmware you just download and install that one. Make sure mp3 player is hooked to your pc.
Go to add hardware.
Have windows look for MTP device. while the firmware is installing.
after its installed leave it hooked to pc for about 1 hour to give it a little charge. You should see a new folder Opal.
Let me know if that helped
