To access the router's admin page try one of the following:

http://192.168.10.1
http://192.168.1.1

Here is the default username and PW for that router:

Username: admin
Password: Motorola

I hope this helps :)

Reset password

The Motorola WR850G is a wireless router that attaches to a cable or DSL modem. The WR850G has two reset options.
Users can reset the router and retain the settings or reset it back to factory specifications to clear all settings.
Resetting the router can help with network issues such as dropped connections.
It can also resolve situations where the user has made changes to the router's settings and can no longer connect to the router.

Look at the back of the Motorola WR850G router and locate the reset button. It is a red button located to the left of the Ethernet ports.
Press the reset button on the Motorola WR850G router, and release it immediately to reset the router without changing the settings.
Press the button on the Motorola WR850G router and hold it for longer than five seconds to reset the router to factory specifications.
This setting resets the router's IP address and subnet mask along with the user ID and password you use to log in to the router.

Hi there,
This thread might help you:
http://marasingha.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-log-in-to-your-motorola-wr850g.html
If the reset button doesn't work and you can't reach the Router GUI through the address it has given then it could be a faulty router.
The number is listed on that thread and I do think you have the same problem.
This other link is for the router's manual incase you need it: http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/WR850g/downloads/WR850G_6.1.4_Rel_Notes.pdf
hope this helps!

I forgot my password and i cant let my friends use this line

If you forgot the password, resetting the router will allow you to access the router's configuration screen again. However, this will reset the settings to default, and you will have to reconfigure the router.

To reset the router to the factory defaults, press and hold the Reset button for more than five seconds. This clears the router's user settings, including User ID, Password, IP Address, and Subnet mask.

Here is the instruction manual for the WR850G Router (the above instructions are from page 1-8):

I have a Motorola WR850G router which works just fine for broadband internet access for our laptop and our desktop. We are trying to connect xBox Live and we are getting an error message that Maximum...

Starting on page 3-3 of the WR850G user manual, there is a setting for "PPP MTU".
Whether or not this will change the overall MTU of the router is not clear. Apparently the default setting is "0", which I would guess is automatic. I would try changing the setting to 1500 and work your way down from there until xbox live is hopefully satisfied.
Good luck...

Wr850g router will not reset held down the reset button for 30 to 60 seconds nothing.

Sounds like it may be "bricked" - check Google for a detailed explanation. The bottom line is the router's firmware may be corrupted and it may be difficult if not impossible to repair - sorry :(

Open your Internet Explorer browser:

In the URL field, enter
http://192.168.10.1 (the router's default IP address) and press the Enter key.

Enter as follows:

User ID: admin
Password: motorola

Once you have logged in, for security reasons you should change the User ID and Password.

Can I establish a VPN Client Access with the motorola wr850g router. The ones at the college being used , routers that is, are Lynksys and are new ... AM in a rut here !!!!

you should but the question is: are you are authorized?
my understanding is that vpn connections usually required a client and you definitely need authorization configured on both ends.

attempt to configure the client in xp as explained here
consult with the adminstrator of your vpn lan site if there are any port forwarding that you may need to configure on your router.

good luck!

I have a wr850g router which has worked well for 3 years. I tried to configure the network to have a security access code. Partway thru the process I lost access to the router and cannot now reenter...

If you lost your password, you need to reset your router to the factory default and configure it from scratch.

Pull out your router manual or download the PDF file from this (http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/WR850g/downloads/WR850G_userguide.pdf). Follow the instructions from it to:
  1. find out your logon details from your service provider
  2. reset your router to factory default
  3. use a network cable to connect the router to a computer to re-configure the router

How to hook up a motorola wireless router wr850g

These routers have a vulnerablity for hackers. Beware.

Your manual can be retrieved at:
http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/WR850g/downloads/WR850G_userguide.pdf

The vulnerability is explained as: "Even though this does not resolve the vulnerability, the web interface should be configured only to listen to LAN and not to WAN interfaces.
This at least eliminates the risk of being hacked from the outside, while it is still possible for an insider to gain the passwords in the way described above."
