Water barely trickling out of tub faucet after one handle was pushed too far the wrong way. Can it be fixed?

I have a MOEN 2 handle Roman tub faucet. When I stepped out of the tub my leg accidentally pushed one of the handles back the wrong way, past where it should stop. When I tried to turn it on, the water now barely comes out for that side (hot), while it still comes out full force on the other handle. I unscrewed it and got it lined back up properly, but the water is still barely coming out. Did I crimp something down in the valve? Is there any way to fix without taking out the whole thing?

Thank you, Scott, for pointing us in the right direction! My husband was able to order the correct replacement cartridge and the faucet is now fixed without having to tear out the tile, as I had feared. Thank you so much for your advice!!

Turn supply valves off, turn on tub valves to release pressure, then remove the handle on faulty valve. Check to see if it has a plastic cartridge. If so, it sounds like the rib was broken on the valve and it is out of alignment with ports in valve body. Take the cartridge out and take to your favorite home supply for a replacement. The cartridges have a key rib that fits into a slot so turning the handle turns the stem and not the whole cartridge. You might also find a black washer and spring under cartridge, it's a good idea to replace washer whenever cartridge is replaced also found at home supply

SOURCE: moen single handle bathtub faucet

Something is caught in the stem. Make sure the stem is free of debris. Also check that the valve or cartridge is intact.

SOURCE: Moen shower/tub faucet

hi... yes that's a very common issue with moen "cartridges" -- it's very simple to fix..... grasp the handle and give it a gentle tug upwards when the water is on... if it retracts again, pull the handle out again and tug again but this time a bit harder. Not sure what causes this on new cartridges but it will fix your issue.

Set screw is stuck. Any suggestions on how to remove it to replace the roman tub faucet?

to replace the roman tub faucet you have to expose the faucet under the deck of the tub. Most of the time builders do not install a door to do repairs. So expose the underside of the deck of the tub, turn off the main water outside then cut the water pipe for the hot and cold water with a tube cutter. At this point take a sawall and place the blade so the side of the blade touches the bottom side of the deck.
and cut all the way though the body of the stem.

Do all three and your done with the hard part. Install your new faucet and enjoy.

Hope I was help to you Rich

Valve inside faucet body pops up and shuts off water. Can take off cap and push valve down and resume until it does this again. A fix?

Most of the time this is an o-ring problem. Either the o-ring is worn out or has been replaced by the wrong size o-ring.

I have no water coming from the HOT knob. COLD works fine. How do I access the water line under the tub, so I can turn on the HOT water supply to that knob. It's on a roman tub, but there is no access to...

Cut a hole in the sheetrock on the adjoining wall closest to the faucet and turn on the hot water supply. Then u will have to screw the piece of sheetrock back in and tape and spackle. then paint of course. My husband who is a plumber says there should ALWAYS be an access panel for a roman tub!!! if they didn't put one then u have to make one. u can buy one at a plumbing supply store to put in once u cut the whole. then u would have one for any future problems.
