Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

DON'T DUMP YOUR CAMERA JUST YET! I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE SOME INFORMATION ON YOUR CAMERA AND SOME THINGS FOR YOU TO TRY. FIRST YOUR CAMERA SITE SAYS THERE IS A SWITCH ON THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR CAMERA THAT SAYS " DISP " WHICH I ASSUME MEANS DISPLAY. PLEASE TRY PUSHING THIS BUTTON AND SEEING IF THIS WORKS? NEXT YOU NEED TO TRY TO REST YOUR CAMERA. THAT IS DONE BY GOING TO SETUP>CHOOSE RESET> HOLD DOWN MENU KEY FOR 5 SECONDS AND SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT SOLUTION MIGHT BE THAT THE CAMERA FIRMWARE MAY NEED TO BE RELOADED TO RESET THE CAMERA TO FACTORY DEFAULTS. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF THINGS, BUT THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE A SIMPLE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217. GOOD LUCK!

Try using the "format" option in your camera's menu. That should wipe the card clean. There's probably a file or folder that the camera can't recognize as being one it created. You might also plug the card into a card reader and open it on a computer. The format option on the computer will also wipe the card clean to start fresh in the camera.

Hello,
You can give it to an expert for repair, he can repair it for less as there must be just a fuse problem, which can be fixed for a very less amount.
SOURCE: on my SD750 Canon camera,
When you get a lens error message that usually means the little motor inside the camera attached to the lens is the problem. If it worked for a while you may have actually just bent or damaged the barrel of the lens itself and this caused extra drag or work from the motor burning it out.
Unfortunately this is not a good thing in any case. You may be able to get it fixed under warranty if you have it still and you DO NOT mention that you dropped it. The warranty will not cover user abuse so as far as you know it just started acting up with the message (I didn't say that and never typed it either)
These cameras are not really repairable so they will just give you a replacement. If you have no warranty then you should just buy a new one as the repair cost will easily run more than what a couple of new cameras will cost you.

You definitely have chance, no matter you photos in Canon camera got deleted, formatted by accident or became inaccessible due to camera memory card errors. Chances of recovery is possible as long as you take the right action.
Take a try of this software to recover Canon photos, Not only general photo formats, but Canon RAW photo formats (.cr2 or .crw) can be retrieved easily.
Note: before the photos are recovered, Never should you attempt to take more photos or save more data to the memory card in case chances of photo recovery might be reduced. Hope it helps. Regards.
