My ipod recognises the wifi network but can't connect

The iPod touch has the ability to connect to Wi-Fi networks, giving you access to information while on the go.
The iPod detects both protected and unprotected networks, and can remember which Wi-Fi networks you have used before, eliminating the need to enter passwords more than once.
Your iPod touch should automatically detect wireless networks, but you can also manually connect to a network or switch to a new one.
Tap the "Settings" icon on the home screen and tap the "Wi-Fi" button.
Tap the "On/Off" button to turn your Wi-Fi on. Press the "Home" button to return to the home screen.
Tap the Safari Web Browser application or any other application that requires Internet access.
A list will automatically open on your screen that names all available networks.
Tap the network you wish to use from the list.
The networks listed are all wireless networks detected by the iPod.
Protected networks will have lock icons to the right of their names.
Enter the password if the network you have selected is protected.
Your iPod touch will store this password for future use.
Type in the name of the network you wish to use if it is not listed.
A network that is set to not broadcast will not show up on the list of available networks.
Check the top left of the screen for the Wi-Fi icon to be sure you have connected.
The number of bars on the icon indicates the strength of the signal.
Manually Connect
Tap the "Settings" icon on the home screen and tap the "Wi-Fi" button.
Tap the "On/Off" button to turn your Wi-Fi on.
Tap a network listed under "Choose a Network..."
The networks listed are all wireless networks detected by the iPod.
Protected networks will have lock icons to the right of their names.
Enter the password if the network you have selected is protected.
Your iPod touch will store this password for future use.
Type in the name of the network you wish to use if it is not listed.
A network set not to broadcast will not show up on the list of available networks.
Check the top left of the screen for the Wi-Fi icon to be sure you have connected.
The number of bars on the icon indicates the strength of the signal.

How can i update my iPod model # MC086LL

The iPod touch is not only a music player, but also your gateway to the world via the Internet. In order to connect to the iTunes music store and use the email and web-browsing features of your iPod touch, you must first connect to a wireless network.

Touch the "Settings" icon on the home screen of the iPod touch. The iPod does not require you to press down very hard to select an icon. Using your finger, lightly tap the application you want to activate it. Choose the Wi-Fi setting and turn it on. You may need to wait a moment while the device locates available networks. Select the wireless network you want to connect to. You may have more than one option based on your location. If you are prompted for a password, enter it and touch "Join." Opt to have your iPod alert you when there is a new network you can join. This can be useful if you are no longer in range of a network you have previously used. To receive these messages, turn on the "Ask to Join Networks" feature. Tell the iPod touch to "forget" a wireless network that you no longer want to use, so it will not automatically try to connect you. Under the Wi-Fi settings, tap the ">" button next to the network you want to delete and then touch "Forget this network." Expect that some wireless networks detected by your iPod touch will ask you to sign up for a fee-based service. If this is acceptable to you, open up the Safari application from the home screen. You will be taken to a website that explains the terms of service and accepts credit card payments for wireless Internet access.
When the iPod touch was introduced in 2007, it quickly became one of the best-selling portable music players on the market. What separated the iPod touch from its competitors was its ability to access the Internet through Wi-Fi networks. If you're ready to surf the web and send e-mail with your new iPod touch, it's easy to get connected. Just a few taps, and you'll be on your way.

Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPod touch's home screen. Tap the arrow on the far right of the "Wi-Fi" bar on the "Settings" screen. Move the slider on the "Wi-Fi" bar to the "On" position. Move the slider on the "Ask to Join Networks" bar to the "On" position if you wish to be notified before your iPod touch connects to a new network. Moving the slider to the "Off" position means you must select a Wi-Fi network manually before your iPod touch will connect. Press the "Home" button to return to your iPod touch's home screen. You will see the Wi-Fi icon appear in the top left corner of your screen with up to four bars illuminated to indicate that Wi-Fi is available and to show its signal strength. iPod touch Support

I cannot connect my ipod touch to my router how do i connect it?

First you'll need to turn on your Wi-Fi.

1. Choose (Settings) then (WiFi) then (turn WiFi on)
2. Set iPod touch to ask if you want to join a new network: Choose (WiFi) and turn (Ask to Join Networks) ON or OFF.

Then you'll need to join a WiFi network (your D-Link for instance)

1. Choose (Settings) then (WiFi) then wait until your D-Link shows up in the list of networks.
2. Select your network and if you have a password for your router make sure you type it. (networks that require a password have a lock icon next to it) then tap (join)

Once you join a WiFi network manually, iPod touch will automatically connect to it whenever the network is in range. If more than one previously used network is in range, iPod touch joins the one last used.

When iPod touch is connected to a WiFi network, the WiFi icon in the status bar at the top of the screen shows the connection strength. The more bars you see, the stronger the connection.

Good Luck

Cant connect ipod touch to wifi

try updating the firmware to 2.2. if that does not work.
You may have to reset your Modem + Wifi Router

In my case, if I bring a new device home, my router won't allow it to connect because it is not recognize. Unplug both router and modem, plug them back ( router 1st ) and try again.

This issue never happens to me at home now but it still happens when I go out to bars or restaurant that offers wifi.... Turning off and on the wifi in your ipod touch a couple times usually fixes it.
