How to replace the antenna booster on 2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback

  1. Remove the antenna mast from the antenna base. Grasp the antenna mast near its base and twist it counterclockwise to remove it from the base.
  2. Remove the antenna base cover. You can use a flathead screwdriver or a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the cover off.
  3. Disconnect the antenna cable from the booster. There will be a connector attached to the booster. Gently unplug it to disconnect the cable.
  4. Remove the old booster. It is usually held in place by a mounting screw or adhesive. If there is a screw, use a screwdriver to remove it. If there is adhesive, carefully pry the booster off with a flathead screwdriver.
  5. Clean the mounting surface. If there was adhesive holding the old booster, use a cloth and some rubbing alcohol to clean the surface where the new booster will be attached.
  6. Install the new booster. If it comes with a mounting screw, align the booster and screw it in place. If it comes with adhesive, remove the backing and carefully attach it to the cleaned surface.
  7. Reconnect the antenna cable to the new booster.
  8. Reinstall the antenna base cover.
  9. Reattach the antenna mast to the antenna base by twisting it clockwise.

I need an antenna for RCA RP7664A portable radio. What kind should I look for?

There are 4 things you need to look at for the replacement, the two most important details are how the antenna is attached inside the radio, and the second is the outside diameter of the antenna. The other two details are the collapsed length and extended length. You will need to open the radio to see what attachment method is used, usually a small screw through a hole through the base at the end of the antenna. There will also be a wire attached with the screw (usually), that connects to antenna to the radio circuits. Carefully remove the broken antenna from the radio, then you can note the attachment method, and measure the outside diameter, and the collapsed length.

I want to attach an external antenna to a Motorol T5622 radio

Yes, you can, but the antenna must be designed for the same frequency. And remember in this way you have no protection on the Motorola T5622 radio. Some atmospheric discharge can destroy your Moto. :) And if the antenna is to big the final amplifier MOSFET (usually 2SK3756) will fail to work.

Broken wireless antenna

It's advised that actually attempting a fix on a wireless antenna is uneconmical and it would prove cheaper to just purchase a new screw on antenna from your local ocmputer or electronics store.

Cannot get radio stations

If you don't see one, there is a mount on the passenger side front fender for an external antenna. These can be replaced or repaired by unscrewing the old/broken antenna at the base and attaching a new one. If the antenna is still in the mount and you are not receiving any stations the wire connecting the antenna to your radio could be broken or disconnected. GM uses what is commonly known as a "Motorola" plug for the antenna so if you need to replace the cable be sure to specify that type of plug/wire design.

THIS UNIT AFTER 3 YEARS WILL NOT RECGONISE AN ANTENA,THIS HAPPENS ON MY HOSE BASE,CAR BASE AND MY BOOM BOX, I HAVE REPLACED ALL HOME BASE,CAR BASE AND BOOM BOX AND ALL ANTENAS NOTHING HAS HELPED.......I'M...

Hi Glenn,
Understandably frustrating, but it sounds like an easy fix.
First, go through the settings on your radio to be certain that nothing was set incorrectly.
Second, make sure your antenna wire is not malfunctioned or tampered with. Broken pins can render an antenna useless. These satellite radio antennae are fairly cheap to purchase on their own, so you could try purchasing a new one and see if it works.
If that's fine, open the receiver. Generally these radio's use small torx or philips screws. Once opened, check the area where the antenna is plugged in - is the lead/wire broken? Is the solder coming off? All of this can be fixed easily if spotted. You can even solder the antenna permanently on if you like.

Install a trunk mounted antenna

It is best to use a mag mount antenna, but you can go to your local ham shop and purchase a TLM antenna base. It attaches to the edge of the trunk lid without penatrating the sheet metal. Unually available for around $20.00. You can solder on your own connector, or purchase one with the connector attached.
