Error Code F-9 Sears Microwave Model 721.64683300

I hear the ticking or sparking down, it will do it 3 or 4 times, then the microwave shuts off, if i reset it 2 or 3 times, i can get it to run for about 2 minutes. Is the magnatron or inverter board hard to get to and replace.

It is not the most straight forward job and can be quite tricky for the uninitiated.
If its under warranty ( but I guess its not looking at the model # , ) return it!

The cost of a magnatron and a board is expensive (It is likely they are both involved in this as there sound like arcing) I would just replace the whole unit. Microwaves are not expensive items these days, but ones own life fiddling with electrics is still quite valuable.

Hi ejv3968,
This means that you have a control board failure. Error code F5 can only be fixed if the control board (ERC) is replaced. You may contact Sears for the replacement part at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central.

During reheat and popcorn settings - the error code F4 appears

Hi hoodrd,
If you are encountering F4 error code from your Amana oven this is because you have an Open Oven Temperature Sensor. This error requires a replacement of new oven temperature. You may contact Sears for the replacement part at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central. Just get your model number ready when you call.

From everything I have read it is a 1100w inverter, I am having the same problem.

Sears Kenmore Elite Microwave F-9 Error

My guess is that it is the main transformer that has developed a fault. If the insulation has broken down - it will arc there instead of the magnatron. Or it could be the magnatron itself. Both are prime suspects - and expensive to replace.

Unless you are particularly attatched to this - I would buy a new unit - and sell the turntable plate to recoup your losses.

Model 72180883400

Hi,
F-9 error code indicates a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high. f the microwave runs for about 7 seconds with a ticking sound..then stops and shows "F-9", it is the magnetron that has failed. The fact that the unit starts and runs with the TICKING SOUND means the control board is sending signal to inverter board and the inverter board is sending signal to magnetron. Magnetron is covered by full 5 year warranty, inverter board is only 3 years.

F-9 Error after running a few seconds...

If this is a "SmartWave" branded microwave oven then F9 is an error that indicates an inverter board or magnetron has failed. Either way.. Try this...With the F9 error cleared, start the oven and listen for a ticking sound. The inverter will attempt to 'fire' the magnetron 5 times.(ticking sound). If can hear ticking, replace magnetron....Else in may be a door switch problem

Kenmore ultra elite microwave hood combination

F9 code can mean something different depending upon the particular model.....
1.) IF your Microwave uses "UltraWave technology"/"SmartWave technology"...Then either the Magnetron has failed or the Inverter board has failed OR maybe the control board has failed (HUH?).
2.) IF your Microwave does NOT use "UltraWave technology"/"SmartWave technology" then one or more of the door switches has failed.

** "UltraWave technology"/"SmartWave technology" **
I'll explain a few things about this wonderful technology...
The control board (accepts the pushbutton commands) has to talk to the inverter board to tell it how much power should be applied to the magnetron. The inverter board will then power the magnetron and inform the control board if the magnetron is working OK.
If there is something wrong with the magnetron or inverter board or a there is a communication breakdown between the control board and the inverter board...WA-LA-----F9----

A pretty reliable test for the Magnetron is to operate the oven and listen for a ticking sound 5-6 times about a second apart. If you can hear the ticking....The magnetron has failed..if no ticking, the control or inverter board failed.

Note: This 'technology' may come in other flavors as well

Shuts down after running about 8-9 seconds.

We'd need the full model number to be sure, but it sounds like an inverter failure. Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models. I would call Sears for service. See http://www.sears.com
