My tv is just keeps shutting off on it's own. the power and opc button is blinking. i can't get the tv to stay own. what is the problem?
How many times per second does the POWER led blink? (dont worry about the OPC).
1x per second (constant, steady blink) = bad inverter/lamps
2x per second = bad power supply
3x per second = bad main board
You can buy the parts online and fix if yourself!!
DO A MASTER RESET!
Why do you need to access the service menu?
In case you didn't know already, you can permanetaly damage your set by
accessing the service menu and change things around that you don't know
about...
So take EXTREME caution and know the risks unless, like I said, you know what you're doing..
But this should get you into the Service Menu on your Sharp model.
1) Unplug the TV set
2) Press and hold the Volume Down and Input buttons on the TV set itself..
3) While pressing those buttons, plug the set back in
4) The TV will turn itself on.. release the buttons
5) When a circle with a K on it appears on the left side of the screen, press the Volume Down and Channel Down buttons on the TV set at the same time
6) You will have now accessed the service menu
7) Press 1-5 on the remote to display gray screens.. Don't do anything else unless you know what you're doing!!
8) Turn off the set and turn it back on to exit the service menu
my power light on my aquos stays on for 5 sec shuts off then on for 5 second whats the fix

I too had this problem and, like nater77's posting from Feb 24, it took three new boards (and three trips and six weeks) to get my 46"" Aquos running again. Luckily it was only two months old and under warranty. Wish my pre-purchase research had shown this problem - I sure wouldn't be a Sharp owner now.
Also happening to me....seems to work for a few minutes and then bam... cuts off and the blinking starts. It seems as if i dont try to change channels it does better...
I contacted Sharp support and told that Power light blinks green twice per second. Immediately, the support person said he needs to order new Power supply which takes about 3 to 4 days. Couple of days later, Sharp support contractor replaced my TV's Power supply and it is now working fine.
I too had the same problem, however, if you have a bad HDMI cable, it will trip the TV into safe mode (blinking power and opc lights). Try switching out the cable or cables before going the service route.
My problem was not overheating, it was a circuit board issue. They replaced both main circuit boards and the problem was fixed.

I had the same problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV
up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors.
Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although
were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of
preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected
due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Hope this helps

Hi
Make sure the AC cord is not loose or disconnected. Check to ensure the cord is firmly plugged into the outlet at one end, and firmly connected to your television at the other end. The AC cord connects to the television about midway across the back of the set, near the bottom of the back panel. The hole for the AC connection is shaped like a figure eight. Try powering up the TV with the cords firmly connected.
Check the "Main Power" to ensure it is on. Locate the button on the top of the television among the "Volume" and "Channel" buttons. Press the button to switch the television on. If the "Main Power" button is off the remote will not turn on the television. Wait to see if pressing "Main Power" will activate the TV.
Press "TV Power" on the remote control to power up the TV from stand-by mode. If the power light on the front of the television glows red when you press "TV Power" on the remote, press the "Main Power" button on top of the television to remove the TV from stand-by. If the TV is accidentally in stand-by mode it may not come on when pressing certain buttons.
Check the circuit board. If your set still won't turn on and you hear a clicking noise when you plug it in, you most likely have a defective circuit board.

I've read online that upgrading to the latest firmware sometimes resolves this issue. That's kind of shooting in the dark though - I personally would not feel completely confident that a FW flash would actually resolve the issue (as it could still be lurking beneath somewhere, waiting to surface again). If you have no warranty, then the FW flash is not a bad option. It's relatively easy and virtually impossible to screw up!
If you're still under warranty, then I imagine you've figured out by now that you'll need to contact Sharp to fix this issue. Mine was luckily under the extended (15-month) factory warranty when this first happened to me. I was 13+ months out from date of purchase. Sharp support confirmed a tech needed to come out for an all-day appointment to troubleshoot the TV. Thank goodness for the extra 3 month warranty I got when signing up for the Aquos Advantage club! Otherwise, my $3400 investment might have cost me at least $700-$800 to fix - only a year out from purchase!
Good luck!

My new Aquos, after three days use, won't power up. Power light is blinking green, OPC light blinking once for every two on power. Sharp customer support said to remove all power cords for 30 min, and also suggested cable coming straight in is not what it's designed for. They would prefer HDMI input from a cable box.
I have the exact same problem, I can only shut down the TV by killing the power. I have removed all connections and problem still exists. My TV is the LC46D64U AQUOS.
Same damn problem here. Bought a Sharp LC42D64U. Took it out of the box, hooked it up via HD cable modem, DVD, vcr. Everything works fine. Go to register the problem and receive an alert saying there is an update available. I figure the best thing to do is keep updated so I download and install the update. The update ran it's course and a message comes up saying "Update installed successfully" then ...POOF...screen goes black. Power light and OPC light are blinking continuously. Let it go for 1/2 an hour in case it was till updating then called tech support. Tech support told me to remove USB drive, and power down for one hour to "reset" the system. Did this twice, no change.
This set was purchased as a family Christmas present and it doesn't look like it will be operating for Christmas. I'm NOT a happy camper. Last time I buy a Sharp product.
LC - 32GP1U. 1500 dollars at best buy. worked for one night. now it flashes power/opc green twice then opc alone five times and pauses then restarts the sequence. turning the unit on will get a pause of 3 seconds or so then a picture for a second and then a click and then the power goes off. not a way to differentiate the product. i've got a sony 52 at work i've had for months - not a peep of a problem. aquous was recommended by the best buy rep and consumer reports....?
Just for the record my 42" has the blinking lights problem as well. (power, and OPC) I'd like to mention, just because no one else has, is that when you try to push the power button, you here the relays trying to make contact and then releasing, it does this three times, then kicks back over to the blinking lights.
Same problem here. in the middle of watching a movie, then picture freezes and screen shuts down. OPC and power light blink twice together and then OPC blinks three additional times. Tried to unplug it and does not work. Any help please.. I've had it for about 1 week now.
I own the LC-42D64U. I'm having problems with the TV turning itself off after 3 minutes of use. The green power light flashes in time with a clicking noise (like the TV is trying to power up/down). No other lights are present and the timing is 3-5 seconds between each click/flash.
I've tried all troubleshooting suggestions on every site I can find (Sharp's is of no particular help) and cannot resolve it. I spoke to Sharp today and he didn't even flinch when I told him about the problem. He said I should take it back to the place I purchased it or he would dispatch a technician. He didn't offer any troubleshooting tips/suggestions.
Since I purchased through an online retailer, I cannot return the TV to them and will have to wait and see what the technician tells me. I would stay away from Sharp LCDs. I've had the TV for a week and in today's manufacturing climate, this is completely unacceptable (IMHO).
Another unhappy user of Sharp LC42D64U here. Watching a regular show on and then POOF - picture and sound gone. Pressed the ON button and only the sound came on for a few seconds. All I have now is the blinking green Power lamp. I left it unplugged overnight (to reset it) to no avail. I haven't updated the software, I am using HDMI from the cable box and using an expensive Monster Cable surge protector. The repair shop will pick the TV up tomorrow and hopefully they can fix it.
This happened to me also. Has anyone gotten this fixed? What was the solution?
I have a Sharp Aquos LC-60C46U with a sudden shut off problem. This happened approximately 5 weeks ago (went out of the room, came back in and the tv was off - thought the dog may have stepped on the remote, turned tv back on, no problem) about a week later, was watching tv and poof - it turned itself off. Power and OPC lights flash once, then power light flashes twice - in sequence.
I've been waiting almost 3 weeks now for repair (my tv is still under warranty). Sharp's customer service is very friendly, but they keep mum about the diagnostic flashing on the tv. I've had MAJOR issues with the service companies they are using. I live in a smaller town in Missouri and have been extremely inconvenienced due to the fact that they have very limited contracted repair companies in this area. I had to delay my service appointment because I didn't find out until the day of service that I had to remove my tv from the wall myself - (something that could have been done in the almost 3 weeks it took to get someone out to my house). etc. etc. etc.
The problem with the tv's shutting off is very common, they just won't talk about it - very frustrating.
The TV repairmen came and picked up the TV last week. They replaced 3 inverters and the power supply and brought the TV back this morning. It is now almost 6PM and the TV is broke again. Symptoms same as before, flashing green power light.
While watching TV the screen went black. The power light went from green to red. We hit the on button, the light briefly changed to green, then immediately to a flashing red.
exactle same as above
An update from my previous post:
A technician came out last Friday and replaced two circuit boards on the right (rear) side of the TV. He put everything back together and waited. Like clockwork, the TV killed after 3 minutes of use. He called Sharp and they're sending additional parts. He's going to replace the power supply and some other circuit board. Unfortunately, he had to have them shipped from Sharp. It's now Tuesday and I haven't heard from anyone. Good thing I didn't have big Super Bowl plans.
Gotta love it. I'll re-post when/if the TV gets fixed.
Good luck, y'all.
Yes I have the same problem with my new 42 inches..Aguos that I received on the 12th of January 2008.
Yesterday I wanted to open the TV and it opened but a few seconds later I heard a click and the TV went black and the green light started to blink.
I call Sharp yesterday and they referred me to a local technician without inquiring about the problem. I guess they are very busy!!!!
It is my first time with Sharp and I hope that I have made a good choice.
I called for the mechanizing today and he should be at home this pm. I will let you know when it will be fixed.
Update:
The Sharp technician came out and fixed my TV. After replacing 3 circuit boards and the power supply, the TV seems to be working fine. I've been running it at a trade show for 10 hours a day for the last 10 days and it's working as it should.
When the technician finally fixed it, he made the comment that if the boards he was installing didn't fix the problem, there was nothing else he could do. I'm amazed that Sharp's QA is so poor. It can't be cheap to send the local repair guy out multiple times.
Good luck everyone,
Nate

my tv keeps flashing red under the power light
same problem ....i was surfing thru the channels and suddenly bam ...first the picture disappeared and then the tv shut itself off .....the opc anf power light starting flashing and we dint have a clue how to fix it.....looked up the sharp manual ....there troubleshooting page is no good .....tried to get in touch with the customer service ....but they only work from 7 am to 7 pm CST ....thats ridiculous ....i definitely expected better from sharp ....others' comments look scary ....keeping my fingers crossed!
same exact problem! mine will stay on if i dont try to surf....lol
I have a Sharp 27U-F500 and it shuts down by itself. If I unplug it, and let it sit for awhile, it can be turned back on but will shut itself off in a short time. The problem seems to be getting worse as the TV will shut itself off with less time. Anyone know what the problem is? How much to have it fixed?
I encountered this problem last night. Both picture and sound got cut off.
The night before this happened, I dozed off in couch while watching TV and the TV was running for around 10 hours straight. Mine is LC42D62U, a replacement TV shipped by Sharp support in Nov 2007, because my first TV (bought in Aug 2007) had smoke coming off of it after working fine for about three months. I have contacted Aquos support and waiting to hear from them again.....Fortunately, in both cases TV is under warranty. What do we do after the warranty expires? Anyone asked for full refund instead of fixing it?
It is so annoying to have month-long outage once in every three months.
my tv doesn't even turn on, it just goes strait to blinking. two blinks and then a pouse. it's not hot, becouse i havent been useing it. whats up?
My Charp Aquos LC-C5262U cannot be powered up - there is no audio or input select box which normally appears during power up. The green power light blinks 3 times per second, and the OPC 1 time.
Anyone know what it's trying to tell me?
My Aquos Sharp 48 inch flat wall TV will just shut off. No one in the room or someone there. Doesn't matter. Just shuts off.
I turned the tv on and sat down changed channels. Five minutes later the screen was blank. Audio worked however no video. I turned it off and back on... nothing...?? help.. It will be a year old next month.
I turned on my tv and the screen went blank shortly after. It is a Sharp Aquos LC-42D62U.
sharp lc-c5255u - brand new - shuts off by itself
I have the same issue with our Sharp Aquos LC-26D43U but it blinks 4 times. Any clue what that is? Sharp tech support told me I had to call repair as they couldn't tell me as they aren't told that type of information; she's there to help me hook up a DVD player.
My LC42D62U is 2 years old. It wont stay on for more than 15 mins. Tried taking off the back and running a fan on it but that didn't help. CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE HEAT SINKS ON THE POWER SUPPLY HAVE - 50 VOLTS DC ON THEM! Ordered a replacement power supply from SHOPJIMMY. That didn't work, and made things worse. This board too had 50 vdc on the heatsinks and the capacitor casings. My wife is a Tv addict, so please help.
I have the LC-32GP1U,,. Screen will no longer power up at all and i get the flashing power button three times with one OPC flash. Look like this line of TV's was a bad choice.
How many times does the POWER led blink per second (dont worry about the OPC)? This will tell me exactly what the problelm is.
