The front surface of the chest freezer is

The front surface of the Kenmore chest freezer (5 cu feet) is "very hot" and the sides of it are OK. I wonder if it is safe to use and if there's any way to resolve the problem. please advise.

thanks for the useful reply. Let say 1 is cool and 10 is getting burn. I would say that the front surface of my freezer is about 7 and the sides of it is about 2. I have to add that I just got this freezer yesterday and I tested it for 5-10 minutes. Then, I found that the front surface is "getting hot" and I therefore unplug it immediately. I am not sure if it is normal or the heat would die down with time. Please advise again. Thanks.

Hi, can you put your hands on front of freezer, and check from 1 to 5 without getting burn? how long can you keep your hands on front of freezer? check from 1 to 20 and let me know, normally there's a condensate line, or part of condenser lines that passes through freezer body , purpose of those condensate line is to prevent your door gasket from freezing , especially during winter. It's normal for front of freezer to be warmed, on hot days it will be a little hotter, you said "very hot" makes me wonder how hot it is, put your hands on front of freezer, use number method and let me know, but it's normal. good luck.

Hi, that temperature (7) is o/k, (5) would of be a little to hot, plug/connect your freezer, let it work/run for an hour, before you put/pack your produce, temperature of front of freezer, will drop , longer it work/run. that's normal, that's the way it's design. so enjoy your freezer and plug em up. Good luck.

I have a Kenmore 5 cu ft freezer that won't come on. I've checked the plug in and it works fine. Where would I start looking for the problem????

If, by plug in you mean the socket, then you need to check the fuse in the power plug next.
At the very lease there should be some light on the unit that illuminate even if it does not FREEZE.
If the compressor comes on wait to see if there is any drop in temperature. then it is possible the fuse was faulty.

see below links for more information on possible causes

The hot sides is normal, this is how they expel the heat from inside the freezer, sometimes it may help to use a fan to help cool. Also make sure there is about 12" of room around all sides of the freezer .

The front surface of the chest freezer is pretty hot.

the condenser lines are between the walls of the frzr and if it has a fan to cool the compressor down and it is stalled is the reason the walls are so hot and no it will not cool down over time if new is a flaw in making of this unit take it back or if older only the side should be getting warm not hot then if older be cautious of this no repair can be done on these type of unit they are between foam filled walls....

Chest freezer - hose adaptor?

That would depend on the size of the freezer. If it's a compact 5-7 cubic feet, then its not necessarily needed, but if it is a large freezer I would recommend buying the hose adapter. The basic function for the hose adapter is draining the water after defrosting the freezer.

So if it's a large freezer that will not be moved, then YES by all means, you need the adapter.

External Surfaces of Fridge/Freezer are hot

That is normal, refrigerators work by removing the heat from the storage area, thus making it cold. This heat has to go somewhere. Most of it is blown out the back but some escapes through the sides of the fridge.

Outside surfaces of freezer very hot to touch

it should be warm to the touch but not so hot you cant. and also depending on how long the freezer is running and how warm it is where the freezer is will effect how hot the outside is. the reason the outside of the freezer is hot is because thats how the freezer releses its heat from the refrigerant. the longer it runs or the harder it has to work the more heat it has to hive off. so unless the freezer is not cooling there is nothing to worry about.
