Dell PowerEdge 2450 Server issues

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2450 server that won't boot past the original "Two 866 MHz Processors, Processor Bus: 133 MHz, L2 cache: 256 KB Advanced." after the original dell start up bar disappears. I can't enter Setup or Utility Mode unless I remove the battery and the clock gets reset. Only then can I get it into the bios. Please help. I can't seem to get it to boot further or start from any CD I put in the drive. I also don't have any original disk boot set or any repair disks. Just windows server 2000.

Please Help

I went and resat all of the removable components and restarted. I then removed he DIMMS and try them one at a time. It still hangs up and unless I remove the battery still I can't access the bios.

I tried to remove each one of the processors individually. I then resat each one separately. Placing one in the others slot hoping thinking that maybe one of the slots is bad but unfortunately the machine still sticks at the same point. Also now even removing the battery it comes up with error saying change date and time and when I click F2 the system just locks with the top right of the screen saying entering setup.

Power down thy system, pull the hard drive half way out remove all cards from the slots power up see if you go pass the processor etc,if not go into the system setup f2,integrated devices turn them all.see if you go further if you do go back in turn the devices on one by one,do not put the hard drives in yet.wait until you turn the scsi controler assuming you are using the integrated card.If you still cant the on board raid controler uses a raid dim if you can change thi note it must be the same type.
Good luck

OK well you got to this stage nothing to loose by doing the following

REmove again all pluggable options CPU mem etc and from Tandy? purchase a can of compressed air and also contact cleaner.

Blast the system out and when done gently spray a small amount onto the slot for the cpu and memory and also on the edge connectors for the cpu and mem that go into the slots...

Its worth a try but things a looking nearber to a motherboard failure

let me know how this works out..

Cloned Drive won't boot on Dell 1600SC

If you are using an image made from the IBM and it has a different processor and the board specs are different that can cause the drive not to boot it will act like it is then go into a perpetual boot. I would try to re image it again to insure that is ok on the drive also check the board If one is and AMD and the other an Intel then that would be part of the problem.

DEll Poweredge 2450 no chassis key

On the face plate where the key plate is numbers, most college will have the key . I open them quite often with a paper clip and small blade screw driver
Or remove the pins on the hingeside of the face plate if this is the U2 platform
If you not find any help send me the numbers for the key needed and I will see if I can find the key you require.
Thes locks are not too secure and from all the 2450 and 2400 even 2550 I work on only 4 keys total

Constant beep on poweredge 840 appears to work alright

Hi

Besides standard beeps codes indicating Processor, CPU, Memory or Systemboard failures,
Dell PERC (PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller) or SAS Controllers (Serial Attached SCSI) generate beeps to alert failures on the RAID sub-system.

From your description of the issues (when the beeps start), i suggest you check PERC or SAS setup. If you have Dell OpenManage Server Administrator installed, you can log-in and check for more information. Additionally, on the next reboot check the PERC/SAS/CERC boot up for any messages. You may also access the PERC (Ctrl+M), SAS (Ctrl+R) CERC (Ctrl+A) Management Menu for specific failures and attempt a rebuild (assuming you have a redundant RAID Volume).

You can also speak with Dell Support and raise a warranty call if the system has warranty.

Note: PowerEdge 840 would ship with PERC or SAS Controller. PowerEdge 700 will ship with PERC or CERC.

Adding a second processor to my 2600 server

I hope that you fixed your problem without troubles by now, but if you still have not, I can help. I added a second xeon processor to my Dell PowerEdge 2600 a couple of years ago.
Lay the server on its left side then loosen the three thumbscrews on the right front side and "slap" the cover off backwards.
You should have by now identified the current processor by running cpuid software that I think comes from Intel's website in order to buy an identical cpu. That was the hardest part, finding an identical one still for sale. If I remember the Poweredge 2600 could only use xeon processors with only up to 512 kb of cache or someother small amount and are not that available still new in the box.
You also have to get two identical voltage regulator modules (vrm). I was not able to get a second one for some reason and just bought two identical ones specifically for the xeon processors that I was using. Be sure to do your homework on this. MATCHING cpu's and MATCHING vrm's.
That's it. Each processor has two cores and you should see all four after you boot.
Another thing to think about would be setting the processor afinity to run your most intensive process to all four cores while only letting most applications to only use the first core.
I hope this helps if you haven't already had any success.
