If you bought the unit new and it's only 3 months old, the motor should be under warranty and whoever installed the unit should replace the motor for free and Carrier should pay him for the warranty work.

Hi there I have a model number for my carrier a/c unit. I need to find out the tonnage. 38ykc042300 Please any help I will be very greatful.

This is a 3 and 1/2 ton unit.
The 042 in the model number is the tonnage of your carrier unit.
AC tonnage is based on 12,000 btu per ton.
12,000.....1 ton
18,000.....1 and 1/2 ton
24,000.....2 ton
30,000.....2 and 1/2 ton
36,000.....3 ton
42,000.....3 and 1/2 ton
48,000.....4 ton
60,000.....5 ton.
There is no 4 and 1/2 ton unit.

I am trying to replace my old bryant heat pump with a new bryant heat pump, but I am having a difficult time figuring out the tonage. Can you tell me if I have the model number?

yes just post the model number and someone will be glad to help you..
fyi if the model number has for example 373036 373042 373048
the o and number after it usually is the btu value...
12000 btu's = 1 ton so a 036 would be a 3 ton 042 3 1/2 060 would be a 5 ton
post the number someone will help you out... another way to find out
carrier which makes bryant units can help you also
a number for ft. worth location is 817-834-4496 good luck to you
