I'm upgrading my ram, but can't get both the old (original) stick and new stick to work together in my macbook pro intel 15-inch pre-2008. it turns on but screen stays black. If only one of the sticks is in (either one, in either slot) it works fine. Anyone have ideas?
Some ram sticks just dont like each other
when replacing memory its best to replace as a matched pair ideally from the same manufacturer and the same speed , for example DDR 266
hope this helps.
Buy another just like the one purchased and use both new ones. Speed or some other difference is preventing compatibility.
You have two sticks of different speeds they will not work together you must be sure that both sticks have the same FSB speed

the original one is 1 gb/667mhz, and the new one is 2 gb/667mhz. But perhaps as someone else suggested I need to buy a matching pair because they just don't like each other? thanks very much for your help and the quick response.
the speeds are the same, but yeah, they may just not like each other. thanks very much for the quick response.
yeah, I guess I'll just need to go buy its match so they'll get along. thanks for the quick response.
