KitchenAid Dishwasher (model KUDS01IJBL) has black gunk inside

My KitchenAid dishwasher (model KUDS01IJBL) is digusting inside. Black gunk everywhere, and the dishes appear clean, most of them, not all. What could the problem be, and can I fix it myself?

That black gunk is caused by soap deposits and food particles that do not get washed down the drain. This all collects in the area around the door gasket and front of the wash tub and forms a sticky black sludge. You need to periodically clean the interior of the dishwasher out with a non-abrasive cleaner with some bleach in it to kill bacteria. You should also check the wash pump sump (located under the lower spray arm) to make sure it is not being clogged with food and debris. In order to access the pump sump, you will need to perform the following:

1. Remove the lower wash rack and lower spray arm.

2. Remove the upper wash rack and spray arm.

3. Locate the screws holding in the upper spray feed tube. Remove the screws to the feed tube and turn the whole assembly 1/4 turn to the right (CW direction). The entire assembly will unlock from the wash pump assembly and lift out.

4. Remove the strainer assembly (known as an accumulator) that covers the pump sump area.

Inspect the sump area for food particles and debris that may be contributing to the mess inside the wash tub. If you need some guidance, pcappliancerepair.com has some very helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you.

If you have any questions, or require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Why is my Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS01DJSS0 pump making loud humming noise? Pump motor suddenly began making loud humming noise when running. (not so bad when draining).

Some dishwashers have a soft food disposal inside. If something is hung up, it will grind or hum for a long time. If this is the problem, it will eventually go away.

I found some black plastic under the dishwasher and then found some more... it appears to be long as if it was the seal or something across the bottom of the door. Can you tell me what it is and what I...

Hello,
Its hard to tell from the description what it is. Does it like item #4 in first link OR item #31 in second link. If it is item #31 in second link its soundproofing insulation that attaches to kick plate and has come loose,a couple dabs of super glue would reattach it to kickplate

If it is item 4 thatsa seal on bottom of door and needs to be there to prevent leaks

Aluminum clad pans turning black and aluminum baking pans turning black

Yes, this will tend to happen with aluminium in a dishwasher. All you can do is to experiment with different brands of dishwasher powder/tablets. Some only leave the aluminium dull and grey.

Melted rubber gasket, black rubber residue inside dishwasher I had a problem with the latch not connecting and therefore could not turn on the dishwasher. After, two months with Sears repairmen,...

that is because Sears highers nimrods. sorry for the honest answer but it is the truth. Just a tip any time you get a Sears tech in your home and the first thing they do is get on the phone with tech support it's a bad sign that they DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
I notice when there is that black substence inside it is because between the inside of the door they stick this rubber sticky thiing it'ss called a sound absorber and after time they dry up and fall between the door right into the dishwasher. this might be what is happening to you. The only thing that might help you is a heavy duty degresser and/or try 409 it works wonders. also you might want to take the door apart and check inside to see if it is crumbling. if it is remove it. it serves no functional purpose
Just curious did this happen after he repaired you door switch?
if yes this is more than likly what is happening
good luck i hope this helps

Black stuff wiping off beaters of kitchenaid mixer

If it's just the wire beater attachment, then it's possible it's oxidation from the metal/aluminum. Did you put it in the dishwasher? The manual says not to put the wire beater in the dishwasher. Hope that helps.

Black film on turn dials and inside door and bottom of bin

I have a similar KitchenAid model and we always ran it in energy saver mode. Over time, there was a significant buildup of mold/mildew in the unit that was not easily noticed.
Since that time, I took apart the inside of the unit and thoroughly cleaned it with bleach.
Now, we never use the energy saver mode and we use the sanitizer to make sure it gets hot enough so that it kills the mold/mildew on every cycle. The mold has not come back in over a year.
