Almost all dryers have three screws to fasten the wires to the dryer like the following;
0 0 0
Red White Red
or wire or
Black Black
red and black are both "hot" wires so either work in either spot. The middle screw is for the neutral "white" wire. The fourth wire on your 4-prong plug, the "ground" is usually green and may not have a screw to fasten to because the dryer came with a three prong plug that doesn't have a ground wire.
Look for a copper strap attached to the frame below the three screws and attach the loose end to the white wire screw "neutral" along with the white wire.

Your terminal block on the dryer will have three screws in a row and there will be a green screw on the outer skin next to the terminal block cover - your four-wire cord will have a white wire, red, black and green wires - white wire goes on the center screw of the terminal block, red wire goes on one of the other screws of the terminal block, it doesn't matter which, black wire goes on remaining terminal block screw, green wire goes to the green screw

Switched chords on dryer from four prong to three prong when plugged in the top left prong sparked did i fry my dryer or is this fixable?

This is probably fixable as you probably hooked the cord up wrong and it arced and likely blew the breaker before much was damaged. The 3 prong cord has obviously, 3 wires. As long as you get the middle wire in the the cord hooked to the middle terminal on the dryer, the other two wires can go to each of the outside terminals, no matter which one goes where. Correct the cord and you will probably be in good shape.

Want to switch electrical cord on a whirl pool dryer. from a four pronge to a three pronge

In most all cases, the 4 prong plug has to lines of power, one line neutral, and finally a ground. The only thing you can do is eliminate the ground. You still need to run a ground wire from the unit to some sort of positive ground for safety reasons. Do not leave the unit ungrounded. You can really get hurt or worse.

Wiring for three prong power supply cord

If you desire to convert an appliance from a 4-prong to a 3-prong, make sure you reconnect the bonding strap and/or ground wire to the Neutral (white) wire at the terminal block.

I'm trying to replace the power cord on the Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AY. originally it has a three prong cord but i need to put on a four prong. in the back of the dryer it seems to only have three...

These two pictures illustrate the power wiring on a the terminal of an electric dryer. The one on top is the old-style three-wire configuration. Most people have this type in their homes. New code changes, though, require that dryers now have a four-wire cord, shown on the bottom.
Besides the number of wires in each cord, there are two important things to notice. First, in the four-wire configuration, notice that the dryer's grounding strap is folded back on itself. The whole point of the four-wire cord is to separate the ground from the neutral. The green wire (the "new" extra wire in the four-wire cord) is attached to the dryer cabinet. In the three-wire configuration, the grounding strap is left intact and the neutral and ground are tied together.

Sure hope this helps you find a resolution to your delimma! Best wishes.
