Changing the battery resets my date. is there another battery

My camera all of a sudden resets to the default date when I change batterys. Is there another battery I can change to fix this? and if so where is it???

  • brewmaste777 Aug 21, 2009

Have since talked to customer support at Kodak. They tell me it does have an internal power storage source that is maintained thru the main battery. It is supposed to hold the time and date around 20 minutes or so once the battery and or power is removed or depleted. This part has a limited life and must be replaced at the factory, Since the camera is 3 years old, it will cost $100.00 flat fee to change this little part plus shipping. This is totally unacceptable. I'm going to look for another brand that doesn't have this kind of setup. That is just plain wrong..
Thanx for your input tho. Appreciate it.

SOURCE: samsung S630 date gets reset while changing the batteries

It is really NORMAL that the date will be reset to the Manufacturer's date whenever you are changing batteries.

For you not to keep on changing the date and time of your camera, use Rechargeable batteries for a longer battery life span but make sure that you will be setting the battery type of your camera for the Rechargeable ones.

To set the correct battery type.
- Press on MENU button
- Press on the right button until you see SETUP 2
- Scroll down until you see BATTERY TYPE
- Select ALKALINE if you're using NON-RECHARGEABLE
- Select Ni-MH if you're using RECHARGEABLE
- Press on OK/MENU button for changes to be saved

Turn off camera after the settings
have been changed to refresh the camera.

Why does my Coolpix P6000 cancel out all my menu settings when I change the battery?

It sounds like the date memory battery (if your camera model has one) is dead. If you don't see info in the manual, look for a tiny slot in one of the camera's access points like where the SD card or larger battery is and see if you see it there. It will be a thin, tray that contains a button battery. If there isn't one then the camera uses an internal battery that would have to be replaced by Nikon.

Why does the date/time on my L18 keep changing itself

This indicates that the built-in battery of the camera is damaged.(All digital cameras have a tiny built-in battery)

Replace that battery and you'll be OK. Don't ask me how to do that change. Get the manufacturer to point you to the location of that built-in battery or put it to a service centre.

CHANGING DATE. SET DATE INCORRECTLY WHEN USING 1ST TIME

I understand that you wish to change the date on your KODAK camera.;
Please go into the menu, camera settings, date and time.

You can also reset the camera: Take the batteries out for longer than 10 sec. reinsert and the camera automatically asks you to set date and time.

Can't change date or time on my new Pentax K2000

Date/time are set at "first use" or through the tools menu.
Remove the batteries.  Leave the camera overnight, this may be enough to lose the current settings and allow setting new date/time.
Press Menu button.
Press right arrow on the 4-way controller to get the Tools (spanner) highlighted.
Press down arrow to get to date (or time).
Press right arrow
Now set to your preferred format.

If this does not work, try changing another item in the Tools menu.  If that change is not accepted, then it's into the dealer.

A BATTERY PROBLEM WITH THE FUJI S500

Old motors and mechanism is eating too much power, thats what you will expect after three or more years using your unit. Digital cameras lasts for about three years working in good condition, after that expect your head to turn using that cam.

When the batteries die I have to reset the date and time again in order to take pics! Was there something that I missed or did wrong?!

The manual states that when you change the batteries, you will have to reset the date and time; this is normal operation for this camera (though it is a pain!!!)
