Akai mpk88 velocity....need to clean keybed. Need manual

You need to dismantle the keyboard top, control panel, to get to the keybed.
Unplug the keybed and turn over.
You will see a circuit board the rubber contacts are below this.

You will need to gain access to the keybed, remove screw from back of keybed the fix it to the base of the keyboard. Slide the keybed back making a gap of about 2cm at the front of the keybed.

Look at the back of the key towards where it pivots and you will see a small arrow, push something like a credit card between the keys at this point and the key will pop up, you can then slide forward releasing the key.

Yes, you need to have midi in/out on your computer. Also you would need the optional AC adapter, which can be purchased separately from akai, in order to power your controller

Each key has two contacts which close at different times as a key is pressed which is how key velocity is measured. The failing key has one contact that isn't making resulting in the velocity is measured at max velocity so it is LOUD.

You need to clean the contacts which are usually conductive rubber pills pressed against circuit traces on a circuit board under the keys. The contacts should be cleaned using 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q Tips.

I'm guessing this is a main board problem. You can get the SQ-1 Service Manual (parts as well) here:

The Service Manual is for the 61-note SQ-1, but that uses the same boards as the SQ-1, just a different keybed. I don't think this is a keybed problem. You can try unplugging the ribbon cable to the keybed from the main board, boot up, and see if you get the same crash. You may get a KEYBOARD CALIBRATION ERROR message, but you can ignore it; if it boots, the keys won't work, but at least you'll be able to see if you get that error message. If you still do, you know it's a main board problem and not anything to do with the keybed. And at that point, your only hope is to replace the main board.
