if the unit has not been damaged by a power spike you could try resetting it by unplugging it for awhile and then plug it in again

if the play button on the base no longer works - on the handset just above the 3 is a silver answer/format button . . . press it for about 1.5 seconds and then press the 2

I love my old GE coded/cordless phone set, but the cordless phone's buttons won't dial anymore; they get stuck. Can I get a replacement for the cordless phone only? The charging cradle seems to still work. It is Model # 27958GE1 A. Thanks!

Need to set date and time on the base.

To set the clock, press and hold Clock until you see a C in the message window. The current (or default day) will be announced. Hold either Memo/Repeat or Annc/Skip until the correct day is announced. Then release the button. Press and release Clock.

The unit will announce the current hour setting. Hold either Memo/Repeat or Annc/Skip until the correct hour is announced. Then release the button and then press and release Clock.

The machine will announce the current minute setting. Then hold either Memo/Repeat or Annc/Skip until the correct hour is announced. Then release the button. Press and release Clock.

The current day and time will be announced. In the future if you press and release Clock, the day and time will be announced.

Additional setting information is on the bottom of the unit - for resetting after a power failure.

How to change from 7 ring answer to 4 ring

Press and hold SETUP button until device announces 'Voice is" then press SETUP button and release until device announces "Number of rings is". Press ANNC/SKIP button or MEMO/REPEAT button until device announces the the number of rings you want. Press PLAY/STOP to end.

Setting the Clock

message is received. Press Play/stop to exit

For best results when recording, you should be about nine inches from the microphone, and eliminate as much background noise as possible.

1. Make sure the answering system is ON.

2. Press and hold the announce button on the base.

3. Begin speaking after you hear the beep.

4. Release the button when you finish your announcement.

5. Press and release the announce button to review your outgoing announcement.
