SOURCE: My Kenmore Washing Machine wont drain or spin. Only a slight hum.

This problem is commonly attributed to a lid switch malfunction. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, the lid switch is mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. The humming sound you hear when the lid is closed may just be the timer motor running. If your washer is not configured in this manner, please post back with your COMPLETE model number (located along the tub rim under the lid) so I can confirm how your washer IS configured. I hope this helps you.

If you determine that your lid switch is broken, please let me know and I will provide you with the steps necessary to repair it yourself (simple repair job). I can also give advice on where to purchase a replacement.

NOTE: Placing heavy objects on the washer lid can cause the lid to bow and also affect the way it contacts the lid switch.

SOURCE: I have an ITT marlow bath spa pump which runs fine

If this motor is not turning then you will likely need a new motor. it has brushes inside the motor like a cordless screwdriver.
There are no parts for it. you will need to find another one.

SOURCE: pump just hums but wont start

Sounds like its frozen and causing a very heavy load on your circuit. If the motor gets hot within seconds, its shot and needs replacing. Have you attempted to turn the motor over by hand ?

My pool pump wont start. Makes no sound at all.

Clean the impeller to make sure nothing is clogging it. Then, Take the back casing off of the motor, and there should be a place where you can use a screwdriver to manually spin it. Spin it as you turn it on, and it should start right up. Mine didn't have a problem after they.

Dutchmen 2004 air conditioner hums but no air comes ot

Sounds like fan start capacitor may be shot. If you take cover on roof off, have unit shut off, and spin the fan by hand very carefully ,real good and then have someone turn it on immediately after, it will probably start up and run ok, until you shut it off again. Try that once and if it starts and runs, let it run for 10 minutes or so, then shut it off and try without spinning it by hand to see if it will start on it's own. If it does, it may be ok for a while, especially if it had been sitting , not used for a while. I've seen them get a dead spot from sitting and once you restart them they tend to cure themselves and be ok for who knows how long. Remember, Very carefully and quickly get hand away or use a stick if you can.

Let me know the result.

Washer fills up and starts. Once it gets to rinse cycle and spin cycle is makes a loud humming noise but wont spin. If i open the top lid and wait a second or two and close it, it starts the cycle. Been...

If you have a direct drive washer made by Whirlpool, your washer transmission has what is called a neutral drain built into it. It is designed to pump water out before it starts to spin. After water has drained out, the timer has a pause in it where motor shuts off for about 5 seconds. When motor comes back on, transmission is then in gear to spin. If timer never pauses, then washer never goes in gear to spin. Timer is most likely defective.

My Fishe & Paykel KELVINATOR wont drain? It hums loudly, but so far no burning smell. I just emptied by hand as much water as poss but not sure now what to do? Hubby away. PLS HELP ASAP! Cheers!

Hi just read your posting. Now that you have drained most of the water from the machine turn the power off at the power outlet and look under the machine for me.You should see to the front right a black fan. This is your pump.Turn the fan a few times to loosen the pump. The fan should turn freely. Then put the machine back on its feet and turn back on at the power outlet and select a spin cycle and push start.Hopefully the machine will start to drain then spin. Please reply if the machine still does not drain or if you have the new type of pump which has no fan. Also please reply on how you got on.Looking forward to your reply.

Service code 37 ?

a few things cause this error.
If the drain pump is running and the water does not empty on spin but recirculates through the machine, then there is a problem with the diverter valve. If the pumjp is not running but hums, then it is jammed.

If the diverter valve has to be replaced, often the computer also needs replacing as it often gets damaged by the faulty diverter valve wax motor.

Error code 37 is pump blocked. Sound you hear is pump trying to turn. Pump is located under front right hand corner of bowl. Empty as much water out by hand then tip machine back against wall. Sometimes just spinning the pump fan by hand a few times will dislodge the blockage and you will feel it come free. Then stand machine up & advance to final spin & press start. If pump is still blocked then it will have to be removed for cleaning.

You can also try putting it in spin mode to get it started to help remove the blockage.

1987 gmc jimmy wont start

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

I have a magnum pump. when i turn it on. the pump hums and then clicks off like it has shorted out. but i still here it on. it will not pull water from pool

Pumps will **** all sorts of debris and many times the debris is small enough to get thru the strainer baskets and block the pump inlet. Turn the power off at the breaker, remove the strainer basket, and reach in with your fingers and check for debris in the pump inlet.
Clear all you can get out by hand, then on the outside of the pump motor, take the cap off the shaft, and turn it back and forth with a crescent wrench. Then put the basket and lid back on and turn the pump on.... you may need to clear it this way a few times to get it back up to speed, but that sounds exactly like what I've been dealing with at my wonderful pool that's right next to a 50 evergreen dropping needles 24-7 this time of year.... hope you clear it up ....let me know how it goes.

Pump does not turn on except for a humming sound and shuts off jumping the electric breaker

This could be anything from a stuck impeller to bad windings in motor. If you open the pump at the lock ring and remove the difusser from the impeller you can see if you can spin the impeller, If it won't move is it something holding the impeller up remove it. If notit is probally a bad bearing and you should replace the motor. If the Impeller turns try turning it on and caerfully try to spin before it kicks the breaker. If it is sort of stuck and does not want to turn the motor is bad and needs to be replaced. If it spins and won't start same thing, If it spins and starts it is probally a start capicator. Shut the power off at the breaker remove the back of the motor the capacitor will be a small black or silver cylinder with 2 or 3 wires clipped to it. Remove this and take it to a motor shop and get an exact duplicate. and that should fix it. When putting back together be sure to lube all "O"rings and refill with water. Hope this helps.
