Singer 457 Zig Zag Sewing Machine not catching bobbin thread.

Just picked up a Singer 457 Zig Zag and it doesn't have a manual. I found a few instructions on threading the spool and bobbin but the needle doesn't catch the bobbin thread.

I am trying to replace monofilm panels in a windsurfing sail, using a Singer 457 zig zag sewing machine. I cannot create a good zig zag seam when the monofilm is sandwiched between two canvas layers.

Joe, you might try a larger needle than you're using. You might also want to try a larger leather needle. You machine should take needles up to a size 18.

It sounds like the needle you're using is having a problem picking up the bobbin thread, and that might solve it.

How to thread childs singer zig zag sewing machine

You didn't give the model name for the machine; however, if it's a Pixie or Pixie Plus, you can download the user's manual that shows you how to thread it and wind a bobbin from the Singer Sewing Machine site. The number listed above your question is not a legitimate model number; it might be a serial number.

Singer stylist 7258, will only pick up bobbin on one side when doing zigzag stitch

try using a washable stablizer or interfacing.
if that doesn't help then it's possible that a gear or cam may be worn enough to cause the machine zig zag not to work properly

I tried servicing the bobbin area of my Singer 7442. I followed the instructions in the manual carefully. The straight stitch is working but all other stitches are not catching in the bobbin.

Couple of things to check is the needle new? if not change it,
Pull the bobbin thread out and bobbin case, then put the machine on a zig zag stitch, turn the hand wheel slowly and see if the hook (pointy thing that catches the thread) is just above the eye on the needle (when the swing is all the way to right) if it is not then you need to take your machine in for service.

Good luck and please rate my answer.

I rethreaded a bobbin and now cannot get the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. What is the trick? Singer Stylist zig-zag 457

make sure that your needle is a good, sometimes there is a slight bend or burr and you do not notice. Replace it and make sure that the flat side of the needle faces the rear of the machine, then hold you top thread end and lower your needle and watch it hook the bobbin thread (when you put your bobbin make sure you have it in your tension slot and there is at least 6 inches) then gently pull your top thread and pull your threads to the back (have at least 6inches or else the needle can unthread.

I have a Singer Special Zig Zag Model 418. I can

More than likely you have a broken vertical shaft gear.

When you turn the handwheel you should see the sewing hook moving under the bobbin case.

If not, take it to a sewing repair person and it should cost somewhere around $100 to repair.
