Cannot remember what my password is for my wireless router. I want to use a laptop from it. Any ideas?

on first laptop go to network and sharing in control panel and then change adapter settings choose your connection and right click and choose status then (if using wireless) go to wireless properties and security tab it will have your password, just check the box show characters.

If yuor first laptop is able to connect then try installing SIW on it and click the PASSWORDS link to see if it will retrieve the wireless password off the first laptop.
If not, and you cannot get into the router either, you will need to reset the netgear to factory by depressing the reset button in the back for 10 seconds, which resets the login to 'admin' and the password to 'password' to allow access to the router, and setting the wireless security to NONE - allowing you to change it to something you can remember.

If you are able to get into the router, but simply cannot remember the wireless password, you can reset it to something else without resetting the router through the wireless security menu in the router. You will need to then set both laptops to use the new password.

Yes, if you cannot remember the password, then "factory-resetting" the router is your next step.

TO GET THE WIRELESS PASSWORD


Step 1 : Connect - Router - Computer ( Wired )

Step 2 : open Router Setup by typing http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar of internet explorer

Step 3 : Default password is admin

Step 4 : Click wireless

Step 5 : Choose wireless security

Step 6 : Here you can find the Password

Step 7 : Try to connect with this password

Try admin, admin. If no success, go to D-link and download manual, press reset button on the router for 30 sec. And reset the settings, remember to change and record: system id, access password, wireless security, wireless password.

You can either:

Connect your computer with a network cable and set the new password for the wireless connection

- or -

Reset the router to the default settings and set new passwords.

I DON'T HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY PC IS CONNECT TO THIS NETGEAR ROUTER. IF YOU FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD OR SOMEONE CHANGE THE PASSWORD. YOU MAY RESET THE ROUTER TO FACTORY SETTING BY AT THE BACK OF THE ROUTER THIS A LITTLE HOLE A PAPER CLIP IS THE PERPECT TOOLS TO RESET IT. THE DEFAULT ID USER IS ADMIN AND THE PASSWORD IS PASSWORD. HOPE THAT THIS INFO WILL HELP YOU SOLVE THE FORGOT PASSWORD AND TO CONNECT TO WIRELESS PROBLEM.

Yo! if you dont remember the password try connecting the laptop to the router to access the routers page or you could also do it on the main PC that is physically connected to the router.

go to the setup page of the router normally routers ip would be 192.168.1.1 but not always depends on the manufacturer.

once your on the setuppage of the router try to go to wireless section and wireless security.
on that you can get the wireless key that should work.

If your trying to connect wirelessly with your laptop make sure that you have the following information of the router;
1. Wireless network name or SSID
2. Wireless security settings; WEP 64/128 bit ot WPA

If your not familiar with the settings then you may need to access the setup page of your wireless router. Hardwire the laptop to the router or if you have a main computer that is already connected with an ethernet cable, open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or any web browser you are currently using. On the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 (router's default IP), then you will receive a pop up asking for a username and a password, there is no username and for the password type "admin" then click the Wireless tab on the router and check the basic wireless settings, if your not comportable with the settings then change the following; SSID - use a name that is easy to remember, Channel - 1,6, 11 is ideal, then for the Wireless Security choose WPA Personal and enter a 8 digit WPA Passphrase(pasword), remember to click save settings every tab that yuo go to or else the settings will na take effect. Then check if the laptop will detect the signal of the router and when it prompts you for a password or network key, just enter the 8 digit code that you have configured earlier.
